I2S compatibility issue between W4S dac2 & Singxer SU-1, two beatiful pieces of hi-end products

Recommended Posts

My test result :

Aging over 200hours.

I already had applied ECO(cap) for PCM noise issue.

With regards to HDMI cable, I made DIY cable with 99.99% silver line and shielding - about 20cm.

Sound is fantastic and deep, comparing to 9018.

Audirvana3.0.4 + JitterBug + USB reclocker + DAC2v2 USB input : PCM & DSD - Sound image focusing OK.

Audirvana3.0.4 + JitterBug+ Singxer SU-1(v202, dip switch all off) + DAC2v2 I2S input: PCM OK, DSD sound focusing is distracted. For example, I cannot imagine the instrument position in detail with DSD source files.

Maybe you already know this situation.

Anyway, I hope to get the reasonable solution ASAP.

Thanks in advance.

My additional test result to share:

Precondition in preferences:

-Native DSD Capability : DSD over PCM standard 1.1

-Low level playback options : Exclusive access mode, Integer mode enable

I have tested the below both files

Source file A (16-44.1K)

Source file B (DSD64)

changing "Preferences - Upsampling" for USB and I2S.

1. MACBook Audirvana 3.0.4 + USB I/F +  DSD2V2se

<16-44.1K>----------------------------------------------------------------------------

None : 44.1K

Power of 2 sampling 2 oversampling only (2x, 4x, ...) : 352.8K

Maximum sample rate upsampling : 384K

Oversampling 2x only : 88.2K

To DSD (set to DSD128) : DSD128

<DSD64>----------------------------------------------------------------------------

None : DSD64

Power of 2 sampling 2 oversampling only (2x, 4x, ...) : DSD64

Maximum sample rate upsampling : DSD64

Oversampling 2x only : DSD64

To DSD (set to DSD128) : DSD64

2. MACBook Audirvana 3.0.4 + USB I/F +  Singer SU-1 + I2S + DSD2V2se

<16-44.1K>----------------------------------------------------------------------------

None : 44.1K

Power of 2 sampling 2 oversampling only (2x, 4x, ...) : <?> cannot play

Maximum sample rate upsampling : <?> cannot play

Oversampling 2x only : <?> cannot play

To DSD (set to DSD128) : DSD128

<DSD64>----------------------------------------------------------------------------

None : DSD64

Power of 2 sampling 2 oversampling only (2x, 4x, ...) : DSD64

Maximum sample rate upsampling : DSD64

Oversampling 2x only : DSD64

To DSD (set to DSD128) : DSD64

My concern is what SU-1 cannot play some of upsampling cases as I mentioned in #2 case.

USB 384 combo board in DSD2V2se can handle all types of input sources.

In this case, Singxer needs to look into it.

Have you ever experienced this kind of issue or limitation?

Does Singxer need to look into it?

Thanks,

Juno

W4S still needs to publish their configuration. Even if there is no standard, they have to say what they are. They can make a W4S standard.

I agree on it as well. If HW pin is different with PS AUdio standard, we can test the function with DIY HDMI cable according to the PIN configuration. I think the best solution to satisfy the customers is upto W4S but the configuration should be shared in advance.

I have just tested PIN1 and PIN3 as mentioned.

Audirvana 3.0.3 --- Singxer SU-1 --- DIY HDMI cable --- W4S DSDv2se

I made DIY HDMI cable : crossed PIN1 and PIN3.

The test result:

1. DSD64 file : Play OK, Phase OK

2. FLAC(16-44.1k, 24-44.1k, 24-96k, 24-192k) PCM : Play OK, Phase OK

3. FLAC(16-44.1k, 24-44.1k, 24-96k, 24-192k) Upsampling to DSD128 : Play OK, Phase OK.

Before interchanging PIN1 and PIN3,

- PCM play OK, and Phase OK

- DSD play OK and Phase NOK

W4S and Singxer, thanks for your more investigation and solution in advance,

Juno

In case of Amarra4.x, the output sound is mixed like noise.

I'm so confused by the difference between Audirvana and Amarra.

The "PCM Phase" result in the above should be different.

Noisy issue was caused by contact problem.

After power recycling and tighten plug-in cable, I can listen all kinds of audio sources including PCM and DSD.

Thanks a lot.

Audirvana of MACBook ---<USB>--- SU-1 ---<I2S>--- W4S DAC2V2se

W4S DAC2V2se cannot play the upsampled PCM sources from Audirvana as I already reported.

SU-1 turns on 2 LEDs when player plays but DSD2V2se show  "<?>" after <44.1k> in ready state.

It makes me a peanut because the media players sometimes can not play like upsampling case.

In the reference, USB input to W4S DAC2V2se w/o SU-1 works well.

Can Leter @Singxer check this?

I have the capacitor installed in the SU-1 and I have the new SU-1 firmware for W4S. My W4S DAC plays PCM and DSD perfectly. All the issues are fixed in my system.

Hi Franatic,

My setup is "MACBook Audirvana 3.0.4 ---<USB I/F>---  Singer SU-1(with 10pF) ---<I2S>--- DSD2V2se"

The test music resource file is 24bit-44.1K sampling.

When I try to configure oversampling in audirvana preferences setting menu, I cannot play normally.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   Power of 2 sampling 2 oversampling only (2x, 4x, ...) : <?> cannot play

Maximum sample rate upsampling : <?> cannot play

   Oversampling 2x only : <?> cannot play

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

None-oversampling mode - None, To DSD (set to DSD128) mode works well.

PCM noise issue is not fixed perfectly in my system.

The strange thing.... Noisy sound is played when I change 10pF to over 33pF for PCM noise reduction in SU-1.

I'm not sure that it depends still on PCM noise.

For the reference, I changed SU-1 to L.K.S USB-100 and tested over I2S.

W4S DAC2V2se played all types and all sampling rate as well as oversampled rate.

Could you test with my oversampling configuration with audirvana in your side?

Thanks in advance.
