idsd micro headphone output

I am using the idsd micro and need a bit more gain. I am running the stereo outputs to my amps in direct mode. I tried the preamp function and the sound was louder but not as detailed. I was considering auditioning the chord mojo, but any thoughts regarding using the headphone output of the idsd with a y cable or adapter in normal mode to give me more volume? Thanks!
