Musicophile
On Christmas music, I already posted this some time earlier, but it fits here quite well too: Check out my blog at musicophilesblog.com - From Keith Jarrett to Johannes Brahms Link to comment
Musicophile
I may not get any friends with this one, but "Born in the USA" is to my ears one of the most stupid songs ever recorded. Two chords alternating with absolutely no variety, no bridge, no nothing just plain boring. Sorry to all Springsteen fans here. Musicophile
Mmm- if you treat the music as just a slate to write on, then the lyrics make a lot more sense. Depressing, but sense. Born down in a dead man's town The first kick I took was when I hit the ground You end up like a dog that's been beat too much Till you spend half your life just covering up Born in the U.S.A. I was born in the U.S.A. I was born in the U.S.A. Born in the U.S.A. Got in a little hometown jam So they put a rifle in my hand Sent me off to a foreign land To go and kill the yellow man Born in the U.S.A. I was born in the U.S.A. I was born in the U.S.A. I was born in the U.S.A. Born in the U.S.A. Come back home to the refinery Hiring man says "Son if it was up to me" Went down to see my V.A. man He said "Son, don't you understand" I had a brother at Khe Sahn fighting off the Viet Cong They're still there, he's all gone He had a woman he loved in Saigon I got a picture of him in her arms now Down in the shadow of the penitentiary Out by the gas fires of the refinery I'm ten years burning down the road Nowhere to run ain't got nowhere to go Born in the U.S.A. I was born in the U.S.A. Born in the U.S.A. I'm a long gone Daddy in the U.S.A. Born in the U.S.A. Born in the U.S.A. Born in the U.S.A. I'm a cool rocking Daddy in the U.S.A. I get the story. But would have been so hard to add a third chord at least? Check out my blog at musicophilesblog.com - From Keith Jarrett to Johannes Brahms Link to comment
Musicophile
Imagine John Lennon with Yoko Ono Piece of hippy crap mixed with a crappy melody to appeal to the masses so they can earn big bucks playing on the sentiment side of the listeners. I have to disagree: the worst Lennon song of all times has to be Hope On Delivery. Check out my blog at musicophilesblog.com - From Keith Jarrett to Johannes Brahms Link to comment
Musicophile
(Dis) Honorable Mention: "Can't You See," The Marshall Tucker Band "Shannon," Henry Gross "Rock Me Amadeus, Falco "Harley," Kathy Mattea Please not Falco. I agree Amadeus isn't his best work but there was much worse stuff going on in the 80s than Johann Hölzel. He actually did have some musical talent, unlike many of his Europop contemporaries.
