Hi folks!

after I run AO, system reboots and give me this message:

It seems like KS support is missing, as I can't see my DAC (Chord 2qute) in Jplaysettings (tried driver helper)

Hi

please update to AO 2.20 Beta 3. for KS to work you will most likely have to uninstall and then re-install your DAC driver.

Best,

AudioPhil

Hi

Thats a bug inside Windows. You'll either live with it or get rid of it via re-installation of the OS. Nothing AO could do against this unfortunately. AO also is not the cause of this behavior.

Best,

AudioPhil

Hi

Yes yes and yes! Instead of manually downloading, copy and install them you can simply use sconfig directly in Core.

AudioPhil

Phil:

I tried beta 3 on WS2012 R2, and ran ST to switch from Core to GUI, and it doesn't work. I reset all services, switched to GUI (witch seemed to run properly), but a reboot at the end keeps me in Core mode. I can't get to GUI. Have you seen this behavior?

Hi tboooe

yes this is a glitch in the reset feature of ServiceTool. AO 2.20 Beta 4 has the needed update of the reset feature.

Best,

AudioPhil

Hi Audiodan

you can manually edit the hqp networkaudiod cmd in C:\AO\Tools to achieve that.

Attention, each udate of AO will overwrite your mod!

Not the biggest deal but the beta I downloaded last night resulted in some weird things like not being able to get back to GUI mode although server manager did load. Not sure it was B3 or B4.

Hi

it was b3 for 100%. Just update to Beta 4 and all will be fine again.

Hi

Please proceed like described on page 52 of our pdf guide, chapter "Component Store Corruption Repair". Then also restore the default shell via ServiceTool.

Best,

AudioPhil

Network bridges are only possible in GUI. Not possible at all in Core or Minumal-Server, this is by Design of Microsoft. AO will not change this and inalso have no plans enabling network bridges in eiter Core or Minimal-Server Mode.

A Network bridge is a Windows Service. By default it is disabled. The reset via ServiceTool 2.20 Beta 3 set its state back to its oringinal setting -> disabled. This was bad for those using network bridges :-) Since Beta 4 this does no longer happen, thats why the change log states that the reset no longer breaks network bridges.

what you try to do is impossible and has nothing to do with AO or the ServiceTool.

AudioPhil

Hi Peter

i just tested this in Core Mode to verify, so in Core there is definitely no network bridge possible. Rest of my posting as is.

Anyone's comments with windows 10 on beta 4? I'm interested in the Cortana disablement. What's the reliability on 10 too?

I know it's a beta, just unsure how many beta's are launched until it's stable

Sent from my iPhone using Computer Audiophile

hello

if you worry about stability just wait one or two days after a beta is released. During the first two days we have between 750 and 1000 downloads, so you would hear pretty fast about any issues.

happy to look back (the past 4 years) we never had to pull a stable or beta version back! :-)

Best,

AudioPhil

Hi

Sadly Microsoft completely removed the OS's ability to switch between modes. I cannot imagine we will ever see this feature in this version of Windows Server. Maybe they bringt it back with the next Windows Server, who knows.

Hello Greenleo

AudioSrv and AudioEndpointbuilder belong to WASAPI, the screenshot you saw an engineering build of AO, nothing that was every released to public. In other words, the WASAPI services are not supposed to work in core Mode, only KS does with the help of AO.

Install/uninstall/Install is the current standard procedure to get KS in Core, please read posting number 1: Windows Server 2016 Core Mode - Does your DAC/DDC work? - Page 3 - Computer Audio - JPLAY - hi-end audio player for Windows

Hello GreenLeo

Windows Server 2016 support is still in beta phase. Towards the end there will be an updated version of the PDF guide and probably a few videos to cover various topics. The linked thread's purpose is more about having a list of working devices in Core than providing a step by step guide :)

Best,

AudioPhil

Hi CAT

you could also use a Shell Replacement (via ServiceTool), this will also bypass the explorer.exe. It has the effect that your mediaplayer of choice will automatically launched after login, and as you mentioned explorer.exe and a lot of other things won't get started at all. This is nice for convenience AND for sound quality! :-)

you could even combine the shell replacement with the autlogon feature, then you get all this beauty by pressing the power button.

Very best,

AudioPhil

Phil, I thought I read that you have a shell replacement option that starts Roon and HQplayer on start. Is this true?

Hi

yes sure it is :-) AO 2.20 Beta 4 has the ServiceTool on board which offers a hand full of these new "Combo Shell Replacements", very nice stuff. They launch both Apps with high priority and even have a slight delay implemented to avoid network timing issues (Especially Core Mode with autologon is sometimes FASTER than the network stack, which then resulted in problems..)

Best,

AudioPhil

By the way you spook about news some weeks ago...

CAT

Hi

yes i did, and its all working great so far (closed Beta 5 Preview 2). This was one of the most exhausting things i ever did with AO. I just needed a break after finally having it working (after so many years actually trying to get it to work...!)

This will probably be the biggest and most relevant achievment since the birth of AO. I expect a huge demand for this feature once released. And there will be a lot of work still to be done to get "all" the media players to work with as well. Since i am still tired and exhausted from coding it, i just hold it back for a while and try to take care for the most relevant media players meanwhile..)

depending on how that goes it might remain a yet secret and hidden feature in the comig Beta 5 of AO 2.20, ...or not! :-)

we shall see....

very best,

AudioPhil
