This is the new beta Thread about AudiophileOptimizer 2.10. All questions, problem reports, etc belong into this thread. The Focus of AO 2.10 is Windows Server 2016, Windows 10 and further refinement for Windows Server 2012 R2.

 

Not like the Beta for Windows 10 which was a closed beta, this is an open beta phase again. Meaning AO 2.10 Beta 1 is accessible on our download portal for all AO 2.00 customers, no new Activation-Keys will be needed. Pre-AO 2.00 customers who want to participate need to upgrade to AO 2.00.

Nope :-) i was informed from Microsoft directly this morning.

 

Windows Server 2016 will be presented at ignite (end of september 2016), and will be on the price list starting in october 2016.

 

and yes indeed, system center 2016 will be available as well :-)

Using the shell replacement feature has not only reasons of convenience. In fact it does strip away another bunch of running processes. This is very good for SQ if you use the shell replacement in GUI mode, and still another small advantage if you do so in Core or Minimal-Server mode.

as dtb300 mentioned windows knows only one shell (at a time). The trick he mentioned with Roon will only work in GUI mode, but not in core mode. Core mode cannot handle autostart folder like startup.

 

in core the only wqy to start up multiple components is to make a custom batch file which fires up all components in the right order. Then manually set this custom batch file as shell.

Windows 10 supports Kernel-Streaming "out of the box", thats why this option of AO is never displayed on Windows 10.

The MMCSS feature has not yet been upgraded for Server 2016. Currently its not supposed to work, but should later on.

I have the same situation with the Win 10 Explorer when I start my system. This problem starts when you do a Shell Replacement and than you Restore The Default Shell with the Service Tool. Maybe Phil can solve this problem.

I use AO 2.0!

 

If you google "Windows Explorer starts after logon" you will get 26,8 million hits. Microsoft has to fix this

This is a very nice and interesting picture we can see here

 

It's Windows Server 2016 RTM (Build 10.0.14393) in Core Mode. Windows Audio Service & Audio Endpoint Builder are running, Kernel-Streaming is running as well. Kernel-Streaming actually also works, WASAPI does not (yet). We can see Foobar2000 playing a song via Kernel-Streaming... Sounding wonderful by the way!

 

That's what I call a MILESTONE!

Your 'Milestone' picture above is certainly a terrific step forward. Dare I hope that we may get a shell replacement option for Upplay? Or is there a diy solution for 'general' shell replacement. 2.10, current release is really great and stable in my system using Minimserver, Jplay and Upplay in GUI mode. Now, for the next step???

Making Kernel-Streaming work in Core Mode on Server 2012 (not 2012 R2) actually was the "birth" of the AudiophileOptimizer, indeed we have KS on 2012, 2012 R2 and now with AO 2.10 b4 also on Windows Server 2016 RTM.

Well upplay is not in ServiceTool, thats why you can't it there yet :-)

 

but you can confirm it does work/start in Core Mode?

With Beta 5 the Technical Preview 5 support will be exchanged for Evaluation support.
