<SOLVED> Drop outs between iTunes and AppleTV

Using Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and iTunes 11.0.1 and an AppleTV3 I was experiencing occasional drop outs with and without Audirvana+ 1.4.2.

The problem is well documented in Apple Discussion forums.

Having Airfoil in the chain solved this.

 

The solution was to create another network (5GHz) that AirPort Extreme is quite capable of doing (along side the 2.4GHz) with a couple of mouse clicks. This upped the transmit rate from 54 to 108.
