I am deaf in one ear, so sometimes I miss important stuff in the music if it happens to play into my deaf ear on headphones.

 

Is there software I can use which merges the stereo sound so that each speaker plays the exact same?

Im pretty sure you can fold down any number of channels into mono using J River Media Centre and also set this as a default. You can get a 30 day trial of this software and try it out. Not sure whether that is a single channel or mono fold down into L and R. Anyway check it out. Its in the DSP studio options for audio,

You need to select the upmixing/downmixing "surround" sound option. AS usual cryptic in Jriver.
