orgel
So I was idly staring at one of Audioquest's banner ads on this site, and I thought I saw ... no, it couldn't be ... sure enough ... AudioQuest now offers four grades of "audiophile" Ethernet cables: Forest, Cinnamon, Vodka, and Diamond. They're Cat7, so that oughta hold you for a while. A 0.75m Diamond ethernet cable goes for US$595 at Music Direct. I want Vodka, and I don't mean the cable. --David Listening Room: Mac mini (Roon Core) > iMac (HQP) > exaSound PlayPoint (as NAA) > exaSound e32 > W4S STP-SE > Benchmark AHB2 > Wilson Sophia Series 2 (Details) Office: Mac Pro > AudioQuest DragonFly Red > JBL LSR305 Mobile: iPhone 6S > AudioQuest DragonFly Black > JH Audio JH5 Link to comment
Julf
Vodka and Diamond I guess that shows what demographics they target. The diamond-studded-wheel SUV set in Moscow. Link to comment
wgb113
The best ethernet cables that I've seen performance specs on are Belden's Cat6 Bonded-Pair cables. Their bonded-pair technology has been so impressive that they're rolling it out to other product lines such as HDMI as well. The best part of AudioQuest's literature on the cables is the Directionality section! I guess if you're gullible enough to pay that much for those cables you're gullible enough to believe it those claims as well. Those connectors on the vodka and diamond look eerily familiar as well. Bill Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. Mac Mini->Roon + Tidal->KEF LS50W Link to comment
thesurfingalien
Yep! That is AQ at their best again... Which seems to be marketing these days... It used to be a company that made decent cables, sold at a more or less reasonable price, but things are getting out of control fast. But hey... Who gives a rat's ass? If people want to blow US$600 on a product when an alternative can be obtained for US$6 (or less) that does exactly the same job, who am I to argue? It is their money... At Monoprice, 3-ft Cat6 cables are like a dollar apiece. Just sayin'. Yeah, it's their money, but maybe they could find a $50 Ethernet cable and give the the other $545 to charity. --David Listening Room: Mac mini (Roon Core) > iMac (HQP) > exaSound PlayPoint (as NAA) > exaSound e32 > W4S STP-SE > Benchmark AHB2 > Wilson Sophia Series 2 (Details) Office: Mac Pro > AudioQuest DragonFly Red > JBL LSR305 Mobile: iPhone 6S > AudioQuest DragonFly Black > JH Audio JH5 Link to comment
