Hello everyone, This is my first post on this forum, and unfortunately it's for asking for help. Since I wanted a basic audio system for my laptop (DAC + headphone + 2 active monitors), I decided to start with the DAC (Audioengine D1) and a pair of fullsize headphones (Shure SRH-840). I got delivered from Shorelinemusic (a music shop located in Durango, CO) to my place (I live in Italy) the Shures and the Audioengine D1. I've unpacked the D1, plugged the usb cable to it and to my laptop (a Toshiba Satellite), and the problem starts now: the D1 is not recognized by my Win 7 64-bit via USB 2.0. Nothing happens in Win, the only thing I've noticed is that the power led of the D1 turns on, and after 2 seconds I hear a click inside it. Shorelinemusic sold it as a closeout "open box return", but they assured me all the stuff sold as "open box return" is tested before reselling. Any suggestions? I won't be able to send it back, since closeout stuff is not covered by warranty (beside the extra cost for shipping...). I'll everyone who will able to help me. =) PS. I've already sent an email to Shorelinemusic and to Audioengine, but they have not replied yet.

Hi guys, i just always love to hear good sound quality, and started to search and read about. I am planning to buy some stuff's to put on my computer desk, to have more quality sound when using the PC. Even having read a lot i am still newbie, so i want to ask some question's i got. 1 - RCA vs XLR, it matters if we are talking about desk setup? 2 - Studio Monitor's which usually have only XLR out have more quality than other's same range price Speaker's with RCA out? Like Yamaha HS8 Studio Monitor VS Audioengine HD6 Powered Speakers. My third question is about 3 product's that i am planning to buy to start: - Audioengine A2+ - Audioengine D1 dac - Audio-Technica ATH-M50x, I already readed lot of thing's about the A2+ about miss of bass and not too powerful speaker's, but i think i can't have nothing much more than this because the width of my desk it's not large (almost 48 inches / 120cm), probably 2 A2+ more one 28' monitor will cover all the width of the desk. I want to know if these setup it's a great start, or there are other speaker's/dac's/headphone's that are in the same price range and are even better. Thank's !!!

I have a pair of Polk OWM5 speakers connected to a Yamaha RX-V667 Receiver, which is then connected to my ARCAM rDAC, which is then connected to my new 27" iMac. 90% of the time when I try playing audio out of my iMac after the computer has been sitting idle for a while, the audio will start to play back normally for about 1-3 seconds, and then it quickly starts to get crunchy/staticy... the noise typically heard at a McDonald's drive-through window. If I switch the audio output source on my iMac to any other source (such as the internal speakers), and then immediately switch back to my DAC, it resolves the problem and I can then play audio normally for an extended amount of time. The same problem was also happening with the DAC I just upgraded from, the AudioEngine D1. I'm kind of at a loss here and I was hoping someone could help me shed some light on what the problem might be. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated... Thanks!

While I'd love to become a master in my own right of all there is to know about high quality computer audio output, a full time day job, plus two kids whose lives I'd like to be a part of, prohibits any possibility of that being a reality. That being said, I was hoping that someone might be able to refer me to a computer audio specialist in the Los Angeles area that would be able to come to my home, survey my current hardware and configuration, and make recommendations on how to optimize my computer audio system. I like listening to high-quality audio, and while I'm confident that the audio system I have isn't half bad, I know it could be better by leaps and bounds if someone with some experience and know-how laid their hands on it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated... Thanks!

Ok folks, I'm a college student with a budget, and after hours of online research, these are the best DACs I found. Now, I really need your help eliminating, and comparing and contrasting these, since I can't compare all four of them anywhere close to where I live. Also, I don't care about features, all I want to know is which one will produce the BEST sound. My current set up is a late 2011 MacBook Pro with its standard sound card, Channel D Pure Music iTunes plug-in, and a pair of Audioengine A2, which I will be connecting the DAC to, obviously. And yes, most of my music library is in Apple Lossless codec. HELP! Please and thank you.
