topdogue
New to the site and computer audio. Getting ready to buy a NAS and wonder if there is any difference in Ethernet cables and if so, what brands and type should i look for? Thanks Link to comment
Julf
At the lengths and speeds typically used in a home system, any CAT5 cable will do just fine. Link to comment
majik-i
but use shielded ones when you put them beside powerlines! my system: Intel based music pc running Win7 64bit -> Foobar2000 -> Jplay -> USB out to MF Vlink 192 -> Metrum Acoustics Octave DAC -> Lyngdorf SDAI-2175 Amp -> Intertechnik DIY Speakers EX4 HE (with Seas Excel Drivers, Audyn and Mundorf caps and coils), Cables by Nordost Link to comment
Julf
Good point about the shielding, especially if running the cable inside cable ducts or in long runs parallel to power lines - but I am actually surprised at how well the differential twisted pairs in a CAT5 cable reject induced EMF even unshielded.
