Why are there debates if "bits are bits"? Can you hear a difference in streaming audio software? Bits are Bits! Foobar2000 was lighter on its feet, more accurate tone/timbre, quieter, and had better timing of decays. There are a delicacy and precision about its sound. JRiver had a “fatter” sound with more bleeding edges and smeared textures. It sounded flatter (by a good margin) and more veiled in a thicker, unnatural warmth.

Can anyone tell me what my RPi3B/Digi+ Pro (running Moode 3.1) is doing when it decodes and processes this MP3? What sort of resampling operations are being performed (see first image), and are they being performed by the RPi3B by the DNLA server, or both? The track is a 192 Kbps MP3 downloaded from Freegal (a service offered by many public libraries in collaboration with Sony Music Group). It's encoded with LAME, I'm not sure whether constant or variable bitrate. I'm fairly confident that it is 16 bit, not 24 bit. (I've never heard of a 24 bit MP3.) The server is a Mac Mini running El Capitan, and the Apple MIDI control panel is set to 24 bit 192 kHz output, with an Ethernet connection to my home router. Server software is Kodi 17.1 configured for DNLA. DNLA control point is 8player running on iOS. (The reason for the MIDI control panel setting is that I occasionally use the Mac Mini for direct playback.) For comparison, the 2nd and 3rd images show playback of an ALAC ripped from a CD and a hi-res FLAC downloaded from HDtracks using the same setup. Thanks for any insight!

Dear fellow audio enthusiast, Today I published a first draft of mpd-monitor, a minimal load and realtime monitor of an audiostream as handled by mpd. A screencast says it all: Details and documentation are available at the gitlab repository: https://gitlab.com/ronalde/mpd-monitor/. When you experience bugs or issues, which will be the case, please submit those in the gitlab project. I would like to hear your thoughts. Happy listening and monitoring, Ronald

Hello! My name is Dobrescu Gheorghe, i am an independent researcher, student, working at my PhD in waves and math, and i am creating the ideal free music playback software. IT features algorithms created me, one for high resolution resampling, which is able to predict new samples exactly in their natural position. And a second algorithm that can re-create transients, by using a very complicated algorithm, which studies more than a dozen samples, and is able to determine what the musical note was, and how it's transient should look like. I am creating it's user interface to be as elegant as possibl. I am building the ideal music playback software, elegant user interface. High resolution resampling. I invite you to my blog to discuss it. I also accept requests for different features, and want to hear what users want to have from other softwares. Thanks a lot, and if you are interested, please support me, as i am having a hard time creating the software, because of not owning a very powerfull computer.
