  1. Bonjour Blog readers! I have received information from Qobuz that right right now the standard 1-month trial has been enhanced to a 2 month sequence, using this link and the code below. Though, I have no idea how long the offer will be valid, you better redeem asap ;-) I have also understood that this offer is limited to the 24 countries Qobuz operates and read that it may work adding that gift code to your existing subscription. The link works only without VPN, or at least using NORD VPN it just didn't. Enjoy! Tom
  2. Hi there, the setup is as follows: Qobuz studio plan Linn Kazoo on iPhone 6s Sonore microrendu in DLNA (settings to Lossless FLAC) USB asynchronous to Naim Dac V1 When playing back 192kHz albums, the highest the chain gets is up to 96 kHz. This is shown on Kazoo and the V1. Can someone help or does someone have an idea? Thanks!!
  3. Used Qobuz for a short while; created some 30+ playlists. In my case a playlist is the same contents as the album. I use a tablet at home, to feed my Chromecast Audio in my hifi, without importing the album. On the road I use my mobile phone to feed my headphones. When I create a playlist I import the album on my mobile, on its SD card. Also on my tablet and mobile is Poweramp fed from matching SD cards holding some 500+ albums, ripped from my CDs. These 500+ rips are tagged. I find by genre is my most common search. Can I add tags to Qobuz playlists or use some other method search by at least genre?
  4. Looking for some advice... I have personally gone "all in" on building a hi-res system over the last few months. I am running a ROON Nucleus+ to various endpoint DACs around our house. Sources are local ALAC, Qobuz, Tidal, etc... What about my friends? I imagine many of you have similar experiences, but I have become an evangelist for hi-res digital music among my friends. Many of my "music friends" are still using Spotify > SONOS. They are interested and curious. But they are NOT going to commit to building out a ROON system. At least not yet. I have several of these friends/family who have tested Tidal/Qobuz on Sonos and say they can't tell a difference. Of course I explain that better hardware is required, and they asking me for recommendations to build a system capable reproducing full quality, for one room. Simplicity and affordability are key. Important: They are not "all in." They are still a little guarded and skeptical. They are still questioning whether Qobuz > Quality DAC > Power/Speakers will really be so much better than Spotify > SONOS. They want to test. They want to wade into it gradually. SO,...what I'm looking for: A streaming DAC, compatible with HiRes (and maybe MQA) which does not require some 3rd party control software like JRiver or Roon. In the perfect scenario, they open Tidal/Qobuz iOS app on iPhone, and choose this streaming DAC as an output. The streaming DAC would be an "endpoint" for the Tidal/Qobuz iOS app and require no additional software. I have suggested: https://www.bluesound.com/products/node/ ...paired with... https://www.elac.com/product/navis-arb-61/?r=us But my understanding is that this will require them to use both BlueSound app and streaming service app. Is there a better way? Suggestions?
  5. As discussed in the thread, Qobuz will be soon offering full high-res streaming, with access to all titles at master resolution (probably still without our usual friends of ECM, Hyperion, etc. who don't support streaming in general) in a subscription program called Sublime+. Annual cost will be €349, or about €29 per month, compared to my current Sublime subscription cost of €219. It's really only €130 more, for unlimited highres streaming access to 60K+ albums. (Highres streaming already works right now, and quite well, but only for albums you purchased at that resolution). I'm seriously tempted on one hand, as I'm already spending more than that per year with them anyhow. On the other hand, I like to own those albums I really care about (I'm still unconvinced that the streaming model will have a long term future financially), so this would buy at least one album monthly at the typically discounted Sublime subscription prices for high-res titles (these significant 30-40% discounts on highres downloads also apply to Sublime+). I know many of you are not in Qobuz territory (which by the way will expand a bit in Europe, but I don't see them entering the US that soon), but I'd be interested in what you think about this model.
  6. Just downloaded Tchaikovsky Symphonies at 24/96 with Yevgeny Mravinsky conducting the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra via Qobuz. I had an 320 MP3 of an older CD and expected better sound from the new files. After 2 seconds it was clear that this remastering suffered from increased compression. The quiet parts have been lifted substantially destroying the tension Mravinsky builds. The whole thing sounds blown up and out of proportion. The MP3 has a DR-value of 11, the 24/96 file DR9. Stay away from the 24/96 version and make sure you find the old CD-transfer. Much better music.
  7. Hello, I have just discovered that latest version of Qobuz standalone software player is now compatible with UPnP/DLNA. Unfortunately my SMS200, even if appear in the list, return and error that the device is not properly recognized by the software. Did any of you try this feature? Thanks. Ciao, Giuseppe
  8. I've been a Qobuz subscriber for a few years, and generally prefer it to Tidal on both selection and SQ grounds. I've been listening to it via LMS, but have recently moved to Roon. I still use my transporter as a roon end point, but would like to move to another solution that would allow me to switch to qobuz when necessary. Bluesound devices will allow this, but i want higher SQ than provided by the Node on its own. i could add a dac, but i'd prefer a single box solution. i could also keep the transporter as is, and just use the Node for Qobuz, but that feels less elegant. is there another option?
  9. My solution for using JRiver as a front-end to HQPlayer described in this thread was described by me as "limited". Then it evolved into something which, I believe, is quite full featured. Now I have added a small enhancement to this DIY script to support feeding JRiver and onto HQPlayer from UPNP servers. Don't get too excited though, because once more I have to add the word "limited" to the title. This is because you are limited to sending just one track at a time. There is no possibility at this time for playback of entire albums or playlists. If you are wiling to play DJ though, it can open up the possibility of sending tracks from any source which can be served from an appropriate UPNP server. This can include Qobuz, Spotify, Tidal, or any other sources the UPNP server in question supports. The limitation is caused by the fact that, once J River has handed the url to HQPlayer using my script, J River no longer knows about the URL, and there is no longer any syncing with the UPNP server. I may not have exhausted all the possibilities though. So partly I'm posting this as a cry for help to see if any of you might have some suggestions as to how we could get a UPNP server to send JRiver each subsequent track in an album or playlist, so that my script can then automatically pass the track's url to HQPlayer. I know this can be done with HQPlayer embedded, since that can be a upnp renderer. That solution is limited to linux only though (or a two box/dual boot, Linux and Windows set-up). So far I have tested my solution with mconnect running on IOS. This works fine, excepting the "single track at a time" limit. The disadvantage is that this doesn't support any higher than 16bit 44.1khz and Qobuz can go higher than that with a Sublime or Sublime + subscription. Then I tested using LMS (Logitech Media Server). LMS allows you to play to multiple players and sync them together. It also supports just about every source out there. It is necessary to install the "UPNP Bridge" plug-in and configure it correctly. For one track at a time only, I was able to get LMS in sync with HQPlayer by sending to both foobar2000 (with the UPNP component installed) and JRiver. I told LMS to keep foobar2000 and JRIver in sync. The track gets sent to both foobar2000 and JRIver at the same time, my script passes it from JRIver to HQPlayer and it plays with HQPlayer. Foobar2000 and LMS playback all kept in sync. JRiver itself, of course isn't actually playing anything. I send foobar2000's output to "Null output", so only HQPlayer is actually playing the track. The problem is that when it comes time for LMS to send the next track from the album or playlist, although it does get sent to foobar2000 and my script gets run, that second url is not delivered to JRiver or HQPlayer. Only foobar2000 gets and plays this second and any other subsequent tracks. I know that using 2 (3 including HQPlayer) players in this way is convoluted. I had hope for it though. If anyone here can find a way of getting it working for subsequent tracks, I'll be very eager to learn about your solution. I'll also be interested in any other solutions that could work with my script. Any other UPNP servers and also BubbleUPNP could be interesting. So I've attached my new version of the script below. Those of you who are already using my JRiver to HQPlayer solution for local files, will only need to replace the main powershell script. If you'll be using it for the first time you'll need the full package, also attached. So anyone who has any feedback/suggestions for this, please let me know. Or if you just want to play DJ with your UPNP server, have fun! https://www.dropbox.com/s/1z6f0l589uhk8ke/jrexp.ps1?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/u9a5bo9p5vcytrz/jr-hqp-album.zip?dl=0
  10. I just ran this news through Google Translate and it does indeed say what I thought it says: the Qobuz hi-res streaming and download service is preparing to launch in the USA next year! https://www.rtbf.be/culture/pop-up/detail_qobuz-prepare-son-arrivee-aux-etats-unis?id=9772232 Many have signed up from outside the current service area via VPN (then streaming without VPN once set up), but this will make it official.
  11. Former Interscope chairman and Apple Music head Jimmy Iovine says streaming services are too similar: http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-43515185 I wonder if he'd view "sound quality" as a valid differentiator.
  12. Am interested in signing up for Qobuz via VPN (I live in Calif) so that I can subscribe to their streaming service and stream via A+. I've tried two things without success. First, a thread at this site suggested that simply contacting Qobuz customer service and asking them to unblock my account might be the ticket. It apparently worked for a few in the now distant past. I'm not a computer wiz, so I asked a good friend who is to help me. We signed up for and set up to different VPN connections with servers in France, and in both instances Qobuz could detect I was from the US and gave the the reply in French that tells you they don't service the U.S. We even dumped cookies, closed the browser, and it seemed obvious using google that google thought we were in France. So a) either I've missed something and could use some friendly and patient assistance from those who access qobuz via VPN, or b) Qobuz has gotten much smarter and more determined to block users in countries it is not currently operating in. I'm new and naive enough to VPN to conclude by saying that if this is all too sketchy or illegal to discuss in this forum, you can PM or ignore me. My sense is that VPN use is widespread, indeed there is an army of companies willing to charge 5-10 bucks a month to give you a "tunnel" to surf the net through. All I'd like to do is see what Qobuz is like via Audirvana, and I'd be paying for the service, just as I do Tidal. Thanks in advance to anyone who can enlighten me.
  13. I installed Qobuz desktop app, Kodi/XBMC with Qobuz plugin, and LMS (Logitech Media Server) with Qobuz plugin on my macbook pro. Comparing these three methods for streaming Qobuz, I find the Kodi/XBMC with its Qobuz plugin gives the best sound quality out of the three. Just wondering whether anyone share the same experience on these three methods.
  14. I recently started my trial for Roon - and love it so far. I also made the jump into Qobuz. CUrrently I have an IMac, running iTunes, running into a Cambridge Audio DacMagic Plus into EMotiva powered Speakers. I also have several; Apple Airport Express routers spread around the house using toslink to cvarious DACs and amps-speakers or powered speakers. I have about two terabytes of ripped AIFF files on a local drive to my iMac. A few questions: AFAIK, AirPlay tops out at 16/44 - true? So - if I want to stream high res files - from Qobuz, or if I buy 24/96 tracks - my current setup will down convert to 16/44 because of Airplay/? Is there a way to stream to a WIFI-SUB/or Toslink endpoint that allows for hi-res WIFI Streaming? I see a lot of love here for various Raspberry Pi endpoint solutions. Since I already have amp/powered speakers and Dacs - is that a good option for me - perhaps with a hat that isn’t a dac or an amp, like some of the Allo solutions? Budget is an issue at present- so I’d rather not get one of the Blusound units, e.g. Can I do that with my current setup using the iMac as the Roon Core? With local files +Qobuz hi-res streaming, controlled from my iPhone? If I were to upgrade my equipment, and get a dedicated Roon Core - since my 2016 iMac is my main work machine - is a NUC running Roon Rock the best solution for the $$. Thanks!
  15. Does anyone know why Qobuz Studio Premier isn't coming in Europe? Qobuz Studio Premier is currently offered for $15/£15 in the US and UK, but I keep paying €25 in Netherlands. Are they working on offering Studio Premier plan in Europe? I feel a little frustrated with them.
  16. Last month I downloaded some Atlantic albums from Charles Mingus, Modern Jazz Quartet and Ornette Coleman in 24/192, and now all those albums are gone on Qobuz ... Other albums from those labels that I had put in my Qobuz Favourites list are no longer there, the links that I bookmarked in my browser lead to an error message. The albums are still available on HDtracks, but still that's quite a step back in the availability of hi-rez downloads.
  17. I've just seen several unusual (not otherwise available) offerings at qobuz.com (e.g., "Replay" and "Allies" by CS&N and "Thoroughfare Gap" by Stephen Stills). Looking deeper into their catalog, I see many things like CSN&Y's "Deja Vu" with a release date of 2012 (while some titles show earlier dates like 1988)! Many of these classic (Rhino/Atlantic) albums are showing release dates of 2009 and newer, but there hasn't been any physical product reissued that recently. Same thing with some WB James Taylor titles. What's happening here? Is it possible we're actually able to buy new redbook remasters (which sound very good in their compromised streaming samples) from these guys? Please help de-confuse me...
