    JRemote Issue

I have a digitized music collection of about 2500 albums and recently JRMC 17 on a computer and JRemote on my iPad. I noticed that when I'm scrolling through albums they take several seconds to load whenever I move down through the album listings. If I scroll back up right after a section of album covers has loaded, they show up immediately, but if I go too far back up, I have to wait for covers to load again, even if they had already been downloaded. So it looks like JRemote is keeping a relatively small cache (maybe 5 or 6 pages) of album covers, and loading everything else on demand. A few questions: Is this the expected behavior? Is there any setting I could adjust in JRemote that would allow it to keep all the album covers in memory at once? My iPad is a 16G wi-fi. Would one of the larger capacity iPads make a difference? Thanks
  2. Apologies up front if there is a more appropriate forum to post this in. It crosses several topics (networked audio, equipment, software). Bottom line up front: I’m looking for an alternative to my current Mac Mini / JRiver - based music server setup that is more stable. I leave the computer on 24/7, with JRiver running, and I expect to be able to playback music using my iPhone running JRemote whenever I want to listen to something. This works more often than it doesn’t, but too often I attempt to play music via JRemote and get nothing, at which point I turn on the TV only to discover the Mac has thrown a dialog box or an error or JRIver has crashed. Once I clear out the dialog box / error window and if necessary relaunch JRiver or reboot, the system works as designed. This happens often enough that I want a solution that is more stable, preferably using the same hardware I already own, but if necessary I’d switch hardware. To be very clear, I’m not looking for new functionality or improved sound quality, just better stability. Setup: Mac Mini (2011) with 8GB RAM running OS X El Capitan and JRiver MC 21. The monitor is my main TV which I use to watch video. Music is stored on a 3TB local external hard drive that is connected to the Mini via Firewire 800. The Mini is connected to a 802.11ac router via ethernet cat 6. It feeds two separate music systems via USB 2.0 (one home theater / stereo, one headphone rig). Additionally, there is a 3rd system that I stream music to over my home network via DNLA. I use an iPhone running JRemote as my primary controller, again via DNLA. Uses: 90% listen to 2ch music stored on the hard drive on one of the three systems I already mentioned (two connected to the Mini via USB, one remote system that streams from JRiver). 9-10% streaming video over the internet (I do the vast majority of my video watching using a Roku rather than the Mini, but I’ll use the Mini to watch sources that aren’t compatible with the Roku). 0-1% Multi-channel video content. On those rare occasions where I watch multi-channel via the Mini, I use XBMC for OS X rather than JRiver. I do this infrequently enough that I don’t mind the process of quitting JRiver, modifying the necessary configurations on the Apple MIDI utility, and launching XBMC, then when I’m done reconfiguring the system for music / 2ch. Any suggestions? Would running XBMC on Linux and using it for music playback offer me the stability I’m looking for? (I could always boot back into OS X when I want to use the computer to stream video over the internet.) Other ideas? I really am hoping to avoid buying a dedicated music server, though that’s probably the solution that would offer the most stability. Thanks, and if anything in my description is unclear, or if there is additional info you need me to provide about my system or how I use it, just let me know.
  3. I am currently using JRiver in server mode on Win7 OS to stream WAV files to my Marantz SR6006 reciever. I am controlling with JRemote. The files play ok but show up on the receiver as MP3. I cannot figure out how to get them to play as a WAV file and of course I want the best possible quality. I do note on JRemote there is a streaming quality option in settings but it is limited to 64, 128 or 320 kbps and no other options are offered but I would think that setting is for files streamed to my iPhone and the receiver. Last evening I tried some files directly from PC to Marantz (no JRiver or JRemote involved) and still shows MP3. Does anyone have any suggestions on appropriate settings? Many thanks.
  4. I am a fan of shuffling through my entire library. Heck, it's way better than pandora because I like every single song it plays. Is there a way to do this with Jremote? If not can anyone suggest another remote that will. I really like the Jremote interface but the shuffle thing is a "make or break" scenario for me. Thanks!
  5. Hi Guys - I just upgraded to JRemote version 2.00 and have a major issue. It's also possible I can't figure out how to use the new feature but I think it's pretty counterintuitive if it's working correctly. In the image below you can see a new feature with the number 1 and arrow pointing right. I believe these are the options for single clicking a track. Yes / no? My main issue is when I press & hold an album so it displays the standard popup dialog box (not the box mentioned above or pictured below), and I select add all to playlist, nothing is added. If I do this again some times nothing is added some times it gets added twice. I can consistently reproduce the same results. I just know that 99% of the time no albums are added to the playlist when I select add all to playlist. In all previous versions of JRemote this worked perfect. Anyone else have this problem, or able to tell me where I'm going wrong?
  6. Hello, Couple of months ago I purchased JRemote and IPad2 with specific reason only to remotely control my audiophile system. The configuration is standard (all is wired by cat-6) – Router, Cable modem, NAS, Dell PC – Win7 – JRiver-19 – dac – integrated amp – speakers. When I started with JRemote I asked for access key from JRiver, enable DNLA, loaded access key to JRemote and was able to control JRiver from JRemote with no problem and with big pleasure and convenience! In a few days I noticed that connection sometimes lost. No big deal – reconnected and it’s works. Yesterday, the connection was lost completely. First it was like out of sync. When connection was lost completely. I reload JRemote from app store, notice that it’s version 2.43 now; When after reload it’s still showed ver. 2.42. IPad IOS 7.04 And no connection. I deleted access key from JRiver and request a new one. With the new key I got message that key is verified but server is not available. And of course – no connection. Any help with this would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  7. Is it really possible that there is no alternative iTunes Remote in the App Store? The Apple own solution feels a little outdated in comparison to the the JRemote. Did I miss something?
