Have read all sorts of articles and forums, about reflections in a Spdif / word.clock cables. 50% of the Electro Engineers articles state that you should use as short word.clock cable as possible to mimic as if it was one unit on the same cirut board between a D/A / A/D converter and a master clock generator. And 50% states buy messauring the the reflection of the word signal will bounce between the transreciver and master clock generator if the cable is shorter than 1.5 meters in length, and you will get higher jitter and phase loops because of the reflections. This is stated for SPDIF , but i wounder if it the same roule for a word.clock signal transfered in a BNC 75 Ohm cable? I am about to upgrade my word.clock cables to pro versions but befor i buy i wanted some clarification about this. Hope someone with knowlage and experience can help out.
Amir at AudioScienceReview is benching several $99 and under DAC's. The Schitt Modi doesn't seem to fare to well even when prompted for a few more measurements at different sampling rates and bit depths: 24/48 compared with 16/44.1 The next DAC up is the $79 Behringer U-Phoria UMC-204HD
Hello everyone. I came across an extremely engaging article today and wanted to share it with you here. There are no disclaimers I need mention as I am not employed by Empirical Audio nor an owner of their hardware but the article should interest a large majority of us here. nugent Computer-Driven Audio - Is it Superior to Optical-Based CD Playback? by Steve Nugent, Empirical Audio Here are some of the points he draws his focus on: Jitter Contributors to Jitter Pits in the CD Optical read head Master clock in the Transport Transmission of S/PDIF format Digital cabling and optical conversion Optical conversion Recovery of the clock from the S/PDIF signal Noisy power and ground loops Computer audio methods Playing from the Hard-Disk How external computer converters minimize jitter Pops and Ticks I2S interface Ripping and file compression Upsampling on the Computer I sincerely hope you all take a little something from the article. It is short but very interesting. Happy holidays to everyone here. Alex
I am looking for an extremely low jitter source (under USD 2000) to stream digital output over sPDIF or AES/EBU to my NAD M51 DAC. Colorfly Pocket HiFi C4 Pro seems to be a good option because of it 2ps jitter at its sPDIF output. Has anyone used Colorfly C4 Pro as a digital source in their audio system? NAD M50 seems to be a good option. What is the jitter on the NAD M50 Digital Streamer? Please let me know your experiences.
