Hi, I am from Ace Records. For those of you who don't know us, we are a UK based re-issue label specialising in predominantly american blues, soul, funk & Rock 'n' Roll from the 50s through to the early 80s. We have a huge catalogue and a reputation for high quality audio on CD. Whilst we are already selling digitally on iTunes etc and have 320kbps MP3s available from our own site, we are keen to explore making high definition tracks available from our site too. Rather than just jump into this, I thought it would be beneficial to ask people who live and breathe this stuff each day for their opinion. What I'd be interested to know is: a) Would you be interested in us making hd tracks available? b) What formats (wav vs flac etc) and bit rates etc would you be interested in? (Please be specific on your requirements) c) What suggestions do you have for how to get the word out to people who might be interested? Many thanks for anyone who would like to contribute. The bigger success this is the higher the chances of us doing more in this area. Thanks. Chris

I’m a newbie to digital audio, so I need some advice here about where to start with streaming dsd files. I have a pc with the software (Korg Audiogate, Roon etc), compatible with high-res files, but how do I stream them into my ‘analog’ system? my pc doesn't have a high-res audio card so obviously i need to transfer the 'dsd' file content and complete the conversion to analog - are there any 'single box' products that will do this? i've read a lot about dacs, media servers etc, and the range of products is out there is enormous but I’m on a limited budget so I want to get started with a minimal outlay for new hardware. Should I stream via Ethernet cable/USB cable or wireless? Is there a limit to USB cable distance (pc is 4-5 metres from audio equipment)? Does playback quality suffer with wireless streaming? I want to use the pc software as the 'front-end', so i can manage content/playlists etc.. any suggestions appreciated.

Just wanted to invite everyone who might not have seen the 24-bit vs. 16-bit audio test I have on the blog post. 3 musical pieces, 2 samples - either 24-bit or dithered down to 16-bit. Have a listen. Can you tell the difference? Think about how easy/hard it was to differentiate... Then complete my survey :-) I know many here have mad audio technical skillz. Please try to listen 1st before running file through the audio editor! Collecting data until June then I'll publish a summary analysis. Archimago's Musings: INTERNET TEST: 24-bit vs. 16-bit Audio - Can you hear the difference? All the best, Archimago
