  1. Hey Guys - I'm seeking a few members of the community to help with getting a new feature on AS going. You don't need to be knowledgable in any of the usual subjects. You only need to have some time to help and a willingness to offer feedback before the feature launches in beta here on AS. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide! Please PM me if interested.
  2. I have one of the newer audio technica turntables that have a 3.5mm to rca plugs and I had it plugged into my reciver with a phono preamp and I had it turned slightly loud when the needle hit the record and instantly I heard a god awful sound and realized I had it on the line setting. Did I damage the line amp or the phone amp on my turntable, to be honest I could give a crap less about the receiver.
  3. I have an old Bose SoundDock Series 2 that I'm currently using for my setup. I'm finally kind of getting sick of it and have about $150 to spend. I will looking at the Logitech z533 as a replacement. First of all, if it worth getting new speakers if I'm using them for basic music creation and listening to lots and lots of music and if so, are the Logitech z533 a good choice? I was also looking at Micca PB4 2X... However, I it doesn't have a subwoofer. Will it still have good bass? I also have a mic (BM-800) that I am currently use. If I go with the Micca MB42 does anyone have any suggestions for an amplifier/phantom power source that I can use for both the Micca MB42 and my BM-800. My budget is around $150.
  4. I have a budget of arounf 150 bucks to buy new speakers. i'll be using them predominantly for listening to music of various genre.i will also do some casual gaming with the speakers on. i have my eyes on these speakers below: http://www.edifier.com/us/en/speakers/studio-1280t-2.0-powered-bookshelf http://www.edifier.com/int/en/speakers/r1700bt-bluetooth-bookshelf the 1700 is e little costlier and i would like to know if its worth the extra 50 buckss. and NO bluetooth is not a requirement for me and i look purely for better audio quality." Thanks for your time.
  5. I have an Onkyo 605 7.1 Home Theater receiver. I bought this specifically to have surround sound for my custom gaming PC. I have 3 speakers for left/right/center channels(about to purchase more). I have the speakers connected to the receiver but when I use HDMI, I can't get any sound. Are there any better ways to do this? I don't particularly want to have to use the Home Theater as the 'middle man's for the video output for my computer, but if I have to, I will. Thank you!
  6. MRos

    Isotek-

ISOTEK - Beware I recently opened 2 AC Cables from ISOTEC EVO3 Optimum and EVO3 Syncro. Inside I noticed the 3 screws clamping the 3 stranded conductors in place were all different style screws, different colour and different material. Also be very careful with Power Conditioners from this company as they have been know to work fine when you get them home and before no time unbeknown the sound quality drops bass goes thin and the music lost its core while the unit appears to function as intended, no warning lights its up to you. If under warranty have them checked and exchanged before its too late. Over all this company presents itself rather well but they need to work on the quality and longevity of performance to get my solid recommendations
  7. My trip through headphones and speakers was very diverse, but I finally reached the top floors and found out I am completely lost. As the title suggests, I am about to buy one of the AKGs (most likely 712) and it would seem they lie in a territory that cannot be run from basic on-board sound card. Currently there is an MSI B150 GAMING M3 motherboard with an on-board Realtek ALC1150 sitting in my case. According to many articles and forums, on-board sound cards are better and better. ALC1150 seems to be satisfying for normal use. However, it would seem it is not powerful enough to run the 712 PRO. Not enough anything. Under perfect circumstances: 115dB 40 Hz – 15 kHz,dB +0.02, -0.07 THD 0.0043 I might be new to the higher part of audio technology, but I can tell that the picked headphones would be pointless to connect to such card. Frequency 10Hz - 39.8kHz, max input 200mW, impedance 62 ohmu, sensitivity 105dB SPL/V, jack 3.5mm, cable lenght 3 m Do I go for an external sound card like Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround HD, something internal? Do I need additional amp, or will the card manage to run the 712s on its own? Asking like this always annoys the hell out of me, makes me feel like my brain failed. However, here ti comes: I would really appreciate help from the skilled and more knowledgeable. Could some good soul offer advice?
  8. I need a mic to talk to friends when I am playing games, but I hate using over the ear headsets; for me, they are uncomfortable, they give me a headache, and they hurt my ears after a while. My problem is that over the ear headsets are the only way I know of to have a sidetone, I cannot use a headset without a sidetone. I would much rather use my earbuds/in-ear headphones. My question is what do I need to be able to use in-ear headphones and still have a sidetone so I can hear myself? I tried to figure it out myself but I know absolutely nothing about this sort of thing. I don't really want to spend a lot on this, whatever is cheapest will be good enough for me.
  9. So honestly when it comes to hi-fi headphones I'm actually pretty inexperienced and don't really know what I'm doing, anyways I got a pair of HD650s for Christmas and have been using a little Fiio portable amp for them but I know it's not nearly good enough and want to upgrade for better sound quality. The only problem is I have no idea what to get. I know I don't want to spend over $500, but I don't know if I should get a tube amp and DAC, just a tube amp, or an amp/DAC combo thing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  10. I want to buy a pair of speakers for my desktop setup. Either 2.0 or 2.1 would do. Will be using for both music and gaming and also movies. As for music genre, i listen to almost every type ranging from death metal to Debussy. I have been looking at the Audioengine A2+ but from what i gather they are overpriced and due to small size have a less than phenomenal punch. A buddy of mine recommended a "gaming" speaker, the corsair SP2500 which has quite good reviews but i'm skeptical about the quality they will deliver in terms of music. What are the options in these price range? HELP!!!!!!!!!
  11. I installed Dietpi on my Sarky and USBridge and got it to work. I can configure the software using the HDMI and a keyboard but I don’t get a GUI when I type dietpi.local. What software do I need select to install from the dietpi-config screen? thanks
  12. Hello, just signed up looking for advice. I just bought a vehicle that has custom audio work with two amp and wires for subwoofers but there's an issue with the tweeters in the dash where whenever I have the volume up high they sound like they're about to explode from bass. Where should I look first to resolve the issue?
  13. Hi, I have been gathering sound equipment over the years as a general musician / musicl listening hobbyist. Recently I became aware of everything I was missing by using iTunes for so long because I bought a 2005 Acura TL (so basically dvd-a did me in lol) I have purchased as many titles that were of my interests and under the 70ish dollar point on amazon. Since then, My focus has also began to include computer hi-fi listening (24/higher than 44) Here's what I need help with: What gear (that I own or is under 50 dollars) should I use, where and with what connections? any advise will be appreciated. current set up computer #1 Imac 27" late 2009 core i5 Digidesign mbox pro 2 (DAC?) via Firewire via one cable with firewire2 on one end and firewire3 on the other. (Used for mBox) to Sony de197 Reciever via Monitor out (two TRS 1/4 inch plug adapters) w/ monster interlink 100 RCA cable to the reciever. 2x Infinity Primus 150 speakers Also available for me but not using right now/ Bose companion 3 series 2 speaker set Bose soundwave (old CD version 1993ish) Then I Also have hooked up to my TV currently: Sony DAV-x1 home theater system (maybe good SACD player?) and I have a second computer thats a macbook air late 2011 13" Im not sure if its relevant but I also have a ps3 (slim new version) and the newer version of the Xbox 360. I dont care if i hack them like crazy to utilize them somehow. also have crate 2x12 gutar amp and a little peavy practice amp. what is the best sound quality i can get from what I have, (I dont have saudering experience so easy DIY stuff if thats a thing) I dont have SACDs, just DVD-a because of my car but they seem less expensive and I dont mind buying a few. and i dont mind moving stuff around to get the best out of my system. Thank you in advance for any tips, i can give more info if needed.
  14. Hey everyone! I've been having issues with echo for some time now, so I decided to buy a headset. I'm really bad at making decisions, and I don't know much about headsets, so I'd like your advice. I've got about 150 euro to spend, though I prefer spending less. I'm looking for a comfortable headset with very good sound quality for games, and at least good quality for music. I also want it to be 7.1 surround sound. I prefer wireless but its not a must. And it should have a decent microphone. Because I already have a microphone, I could also buy headphones instead of a headset if this gives better quality, but I couldn't find many suited for gaming. If you can recommend me any which has everything I noted above (except the mic), please let me know! I've did some research myself, and these are the headsets I came up with: Wireless Gaming Headset G930 - Logitech NL SteelSeries - Gaming Headsets - SteelSeries 7H Razer Megalodon - Gaming Headset | Razer Online Shop DR-GA500 (DRGA500, DRGA500.EU8) : Accessoirezoeker : Sony Vengeance® 2000 Wireless 7.1 Gaming Headset Sennheiser Worldwide - PC 323D I was also wondering, even though It''s really expensive, is this one worth the money?: http://store.razerzo...goryId.58507000 I've also found these headphones, though I think they're a little too expensive: MDR-DS6500 (MDRDS6500, MDRDS6500.EU8) : Draagbare audio : Sony Let me know you're opinions about all these. Which would you recommend and why? Thanks a lot for your help!
  15. Hi everyone. I am just discovering the whole computer audiophile idea. I need some much needed information, and general knowledge to get me pointed in the right direction. I would like to set up a system using a windows 7 all in one, or possibly a laptop if need be. I have already purchased Jriver media center 18, and need to know the best sounding hardware configuration. Presently, I have my music stored on an external hard drive connected to my router which feeds my Oppo BDP-95 via ethernet. I would like to use a newly purchased computer with Jriver to feed a newly purchased asynchronous usb DAC/preamp, in a dedicated music room. My question is how do I set this up for the best possible sound. Do you have to have a high end sound card for the ASIO implementation? Where do I store the music, and what is the best way to get my music to the DAC as un-scathed as possible? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  16. My cheap iphone dock in my kitchen died today I have been saving for a new main audio system based around Peachtree pre and amp and a good pair of speakers. I also want to play music in other rooms (hence the cheap dock). Since my dock just died, I need to replace that immediately before I purchase the more expensive equipment I've been reading forums left and right, but am still confused to how this technology works. If I buy a Sonos system, will I be able to integrate that into a Peachtree system later? Will I be able to control all music from the Sonos and Peachtree at the same time? That's what I'd really like to be able to do. Is that what you'd recommend? Should I spend the money on the Sonos now in anticipation of the Peachtree based system because they'll work so well together? Or should I buy a cheap dock and just keep saving? Is Sonos the right product for my needs or is there some other system that could interact with my computer and Peachtree? I appreciate your help.
  17. Greetings from a humble new member of your forum! (bow) I'm attempting to create a reasonable 2-channel system for music only (music style: everything). No movies. But first a little background... I was a pro musician in the 1980's and spent lots of time in recording studios with the best sounding audio systems, but I'd always had an appreciation for high quality sound. Like many others, I made compromises when “home theater” hit. My existing audio gear went in the closet to make room for HT gear, because the popular position was and is that quality 2-channel music listening is far less important than hearing BOOM! when big bad T-Rex is coming. (Is there anyone who didn't hear a demo or two of Jurrasic Park?) Anyway, my internal audiophile is back, and the old gear with it. (But WOW! The landscape is so different.) It's time to figure out what old stuff goes and what new elements need to be added that might substantially boost performance without breaking the fargin' bank. My proposed system is detailed below in order of process. Component I already own are indicated with “***” but I'll replace anything your collective wisdom so requires. Your experience is what I'm needin' so here we go: 1. ***FLAC files 2. ***Internal Hard Drive (WD 2TB Sata hdd installed in below computer) 3. Unknown LONG RCA interconnect from Denon's “Main Out” to RCA “line in” on sub woofer 10. ***Sub Woofer: Velodyne F1200 (circa 1995, 12” woofer, 20-85hz +/- 3db, internal amp produces 100 watts RMS, bass management which I plan on using [adjusted to 80hz]) 11. 18. I ordered a DigiOne Signature with Volumio pre-installed & I'm reading the Installation guide, but immediately I'm confused. The .pdf instructions from Allo.com says to "Connect the sbc to a monitor and find the ip address using ifconfig". SBC? They don't tell us what SBC stands for. Do they mean the DigiOne? Connect it to a monitor as in, my LCD panel or do they mean connect the DigiOne via USB to my PC? Also ifconfig? Is that a typo? Shouldn't it be ipconfig? All I'm trying to do is to connect my DAC via coax to the DigiOne & it to my computer, so I can play music off a MicroSD card I have. Instructions seem pretty straightforward afterwords, with just typing in http://volumio.local in any web browser on my PC & setting everything up.
