About Me

  1. I bought a DAC to attach to my iMac. The I love the sound when listening to music in iTunes, but attaching the DAC also disables the computer's built-in audio controls. This means any computer alerts or sounds come through much too loud, and all audio level sliders are dimmed out, giving me no way to control the computer's built-in audio levels. Is my only option to now buy some kind of preamp to add to the audio chain? Or is there some other way to do this? Again, I'm on Mac OS 10.8.2 and would appreciate any and all suggestions. Thanks.

    Seiun $40 HiRes Clarity DACs

Hi guys, Just thought to let you guys know (if you haven't already) I also came across these recently, which are ultra-cheap portable HiRes DACs for smartphones and Macs/PCs by Seiun > Clarity Aura | Cyberdrive These will do PCM 24/192 and Native DSD up to 256. And at the price range (an amazing $39.99 excluding shipping) it looks like Seiun is now moving really aggressively in the HiRes and DAC market...
  3. My first thread/post on Computer Audiophile. Say goodbye Audiolab M-DAC. I'm blown away by what I've heard so far. Piano notes/decay finally sound right even out of my small speakers. Everything they say is true about the Concero DACs, more air around the performers, smoother sound, and much more. Issue for me with the M-DAC is that once I settled on the filter, performers sounds too forward in many tracks and in other songs, things were too bright. Other filters just didn't work. I haven't tried the filters on the Concero HD but I will report back. I also need to try the DSD playback. Has anyone else tried the Concero HD yet? Oh, I want to thank John H. Darko for many of my buying decisions. This guy knows his stuff!
