I have no experience building PC's and have been looking for a ready built fanless computer along the lines of the CAPS series. After reading countless forums on the the subject I know I am not alone. My research has come across this unit from Atlast Solutions in an attractive case that includes a single PCI-e slot for your audio specific USB card. Fanless cpu cooler with heat pipes, core i5 processor, 8gb RAM and Samsung 120 GB SSD for $716 ex VAT. I would really like to know what CA community thinks of this unit. The price and overall package seems like the best I can find out there in a ready made unit. Ultimate Fanless PC, Core i5, Dual DVB-T2 Tuner, 8GB, 120GB SSD [ASUS Q87T] - Atlast! Solutions

I have been reading this websites forum postings for over a year. What a great site. This is my first post. I currenctly use a low end PC to stream music to my system and I am tired of the background noise it puts out. I am ready to jump to a fanless PC. I have read the CAPS forums extensively and want to assemble my own server. I currently own the Elfidelity USB card which I would like to continue using for now with the intention of upgrading later. I would like to ask the community if anyone has found a fanless unit with a PCI-E slot that is capable of solid streaming and rendering. The closest candidate I have found is this unit from Shuttle on Amazon. [h=1]Shuttle XPC SH170R6 SFF Intel Skylake H170 Chipset LGA1151 i3/i5/i7/Pentium, Support 4K HD Video, Dual-channel DDR4 Max 64GB[/h] http://www.amazon.com/Shuttle-SH170R6-Skylake-Chipset-Dual-channel/dp/B016B6B6GI/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1453675592&sr=1-3&keywords=shuttle+pc While the CPU has a heat pipe cooling mechanism the power supply has a fan. Of course the power supply could be replaced with a Teradac power supply. Has anyone found a better candidate with a PCI-E slot. I would like to keep this project under $700 [h=1][/h] Thank you for any input you can share.

Hi Guys - I'm deep into the process of designing the next C.A.P.S. server. In fact I'm listening to the very first prototype right now. I have some really cool things up my sleeve, but only testing will tell if they make it to the final version. I started this thread to open a discussion of items people may be looking for in a C.A.P.S. server or items that people have found in a dark corner of the Internet that simply must be included in the design. I welcome and encourage all ideas.

I've read through as much as I can understand and so far am a bit confused about the CAPS projects. May be the best way to attack this is to list my misunderstandings in point form. Any help form this community would be greatly appreciated. I am not against PC's, in fact I have a hard time with Mac's so I'm not predisposed against Microsoft. Apart from the music player being 'app' controlled, are any other input/output devices used? If not, how is the server's OS controlled? These run on Win 7 or 8. What stops the incessant message pop-ups such as updates, errors, bluescreens, device driver requests, etc, etc. Is there a list (I've looked without success) suggesting the most efficient Winstallation do's, don'ts and Ehrmigherds!?!? I presume the lack of a HDD and the use of a SSD indicates that the storage is elsewhere, likely a NAS. Or is this incorrect? I cannot find many of these parts easily (Canada) especially the cases. I realize that many PC items are interchangable but the CAPS idea seems to for very specific parts. I may have to use whatever I can get to get the server up and running and still conform as best I can to the ideals of the design. (fanless, low energy, etc, etc.) I will have more questions but this seems like a good place to start. And thanks in advance for spending the time answering my ignorance. BigBadger Victoria, BC
