Hi Guys, I have questions about how HQP works with convolution filters. @mitchco's Accurate Sound service created my filters and they work perfect in Roon and JRiver. Now when I use them in HQP I don't quite understand what's happening because they don't work the same way. In Roon and JRiver, I just add the filters, set the volume to max, and call it a day. In HQP there is more going on that I just don't understand and it has an impact on the sound. I believe it's related to limiting and gain, but I'm at a loss. I'll explain it as best I can below. I added the filters via HQP (see below). I don't understand what IR gain means and why it says -8.64216 dB. When playing music and the volume is set to 0 dBFS, I see the volume "knob" turns red and the Limited counter is incremented each time. I don't know what's really going on here and if this happens with and without convolution filters. When listening with the convolution filters, there can be a serious high frequency cut off. @Miska said this is related to the limiting listed in the HQP interface. I guess I don't understand why this only happens in HQP. I'm very confused and would love to understand it more so I can write an accurate article on what I'm doing and write a how-to article for others. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Hi Forum, I have got the following question in relation to HQPlayer 4 Desktop. It starts with the old analogue tuner that I have lying about, and which I would like to put back into use as long as FM broadcasting in The Netherlands lasts. This, because the heavily compressed radio streams as delivered by my internet and media supplier leave much to be desired in terms of quality, and this is probably why listening to these is so tiring. As my RME ADI-2 DAC FS doesn’t have an analogue input, the idea I am tinkering with is to couple the tuner with an ADC like the new Cosmos ADC, and feed the resulting digitised audio stream into my Mac Mini M1. I have HQPlayer 4 Desktop running on the latter, and my question is whether this audio player is able to process such an audio stream as it does with internet radio streams? Even while I do realise that I’d be taking a detour via the digital domain, this would be great news. Not only because this approach would allow me to benefit from the possibilities of HQPlayer, but it would also take away the need to buy yet another piece of equipment that acts as a pre-amplifier and at the same time features an analogue bypass (e.g. RME’s ADI-2 FS). In case the answer to the question above is affirmative, I have an additional question. I remember reading somewhere (but where?) that it is possible to save internet radio streams as playlists and play these as such in HQPlayer. Would it be possible to do the same with a digitised FM stream, fed into one of the USB ports of the Mac Mini M1? Looking forward to any replies, Cheers, Simon

Hi, I currently own a Lampi DAC, Auralic Aries G2 and my music is stored on a CAPS inspired server running ROONserver, I use the upsampling feature in ROON’s DSP to upsample all files to DSD 256. The sound this way is amazing. I’m now thinking of purchasing an Auralic Sirius to do the reclocking and upsampling to DSD 256. I’m hoping that the Auralic Sirius would be better than using ROON to upsample. As ROON DSP doesn’t have the best rep. Since I already own the Aries G2 and I’ve read a couple great reviews of the Sirius I’m very interested in this option. The question that keeps troubling me is whether the Sirius could beat the sound quality of ROON DSP in upsampling and of course can the Sirius outperform an additional PC and adding HQPLAYER to my current server. Unfortunately there is no way to use HQPlayer to upsample and send the data to the Aries. Does anyone have any experiences with the Sirius as an upsampler vs my server or other ideas hoof the Sirius willbe an upgrad I’ve also read about and am considering the TaikoExtreme Server. It is supposed to be amazing as well. I’d sure be glad to hear your thoughts. Thanks Steven

Hi Guys, does anyone know how Roon communicates with HQPlayer when sending audio to it? I believe it uses MPRIS when controlling the app, but I’m not sure about sending audio. The reason I ask is that I wonder if other UPnP/DLNA servers could be adapted to send audio the same way to HQPlayer. I know that HQPe accepts audio via UPnP, but that isn’t without its issues. A more native way to send audio would be fantastic.

Dear Miska: I'm trying to run Network Audio Adapter (4.11) on MacOS Catalina (10.15.6) but failed. I don't see my DAC (ifi i-nano, connected with USB) on HQPlayer 4.6. Please find a command line output of the networkaudiod below: $ (cd ~/Downloads/networkaudiod-411/; sudo ./networkaudiod) Password: [./networkaudiod] (564): networkaudiod Copyright (C) 2011-2020 Jussi Laako / Signalyst.
