  1. BTW - I emailed the people at Sonore a few weeks ago to obtain info on their Music Server but have not heard back from anyone. Does anyone have a phone # for this company?
  2. Well, here we go again. ItemAudio doesn't like automatic rippers; Jsmith does. Looks like Audiophile controversy is ripe even in the Computer audio part of the hobby.
  3. Thanks for replying! I did write an email to Sonore (I now know that his name is Jesus, thanks for the info) but I haven't heard back from him. I wrote it a few days ago but I guess this being a holiday week he must be backlogged. Would you be able to describe the how you use your Sonore so that I can get a grasp. In otherwords, do you rip and store CDs? How do you obtain and play Hirez music? This would help me understand!
  4. Yikes! I guess this is going to be a lot harder than I thought! OK - here is my audio setup - it is quite unusual so bear with me: Speakers: Apogee Duetta Signatures (Planar Ribbons) Power Amps: 4 Mono Amps: Odyssey Audio Preamp: Acurus RL11 - modified Turntable: Ariston Audio RD11s with Origin Live DC Power box. Phono Preamp: Acurus P10 with separate power supply - modified Digital Sources: a: Sony DVP-9000es with Vacuum Stae Level 7 mods b: Audio Sector (Peter Daniel) Transport connected via Spdif to a Aragon D2A Mark II Dac - modified Sonos system as well but no
  5. Thanks Jsmith for the reply. You must have missed what I wrote on my original post - I am new to this! Definition required pleased: LMS, UPnP Re my plans re playback to DAC or Preamp direct: Well, since I really don't know how these servers are configured I am not sure how I am going to use it. My original thought was that since I have a fully equiped sound system, I probably would like to output to a DAC. I am also interested in getting into Hirez downloads and DSD.
  6. Happy Thanksgiving to all from a complete newbie to Computer audio: I really know very little about this end of the hobby. I am intrigued by the following Music servers because of their ability to have a CD read by inserting into a slot and not having to rely solely on a computer: Wyred4Sound Server Sonore Signature Series SOtM sMS 1000 1: In plain English could one of you experts please explain the differences between these units. 2: Curious - the Sonore company appears to sell its own brand name - Sonore - as well as listing the other 2 brands. Can someone explain this to me.
  7. Thanks Eloise - my bad! I didn't realize that the Sonos didn't have a USB output.
  8. I have been away from the hobby for a while but recently the "bug" has started to reappear! Question that I have: I have a Sonos system. The ZP90 wireless box that sits on my desk in my office receives its signal WIRELESSLY and a spdif cable outputs to a Scott Nixon tube dac. Technically - what would happen if I replace the digital cable with a V-link (ie USB out from the Sonos to RCA in on the dac)?
  9. Barry: I have a copy of an article that was written a few years ago by an audiophile magazine here in Canada. The article details how the editor of the magazine embarked on the same journey of digitizing his vinyl collection at 24/96 resolution using an Edirol interface. It makes for some interesting reading. If you would like me to email you a scanned copy please send me an email: spirit84atrogers.com
  10. Very interesting post. Let me outline a few things: 1: I am running XP 2: I will be using a Dell Desktop solely for music at 24 bit (I have a Sonos system for all 16 bit files) 3: The desktop will be positioned a few feet from my main audio system 4: The DLIII will not be used. I had only mentioned it as part of the gear that I have available. Given those parameters: a: will I be able to download (or play Hrx discs) 24/96 and higher files from the 1820m easily b: what kind of connectors will I need to input into my Preamp which is unbalanced Left and Right RCA inputs
  11. Amazing to me how many questions can arise in this hobby. I spoke to PS Audio's Customer Service last week, asking about the USB input. Interestingly, it took a few phone calls to final derive that the USB input is at 16/44.1. My question sort of took them by surprise. It appeared that only the engineer who was responsible for the unit knew the correct answer. I then "assumed" that the other inputs would automatically read a native file at 24/96 (as opposed to upsampling), but never bothered to ask. I will be very interested to learn the answer.
  12. Here is a copy of the post that I just posted on the "0404 Beer Budget" thread: "Well, things have changed dramatically in the last 2 hours. Call me impulsive, but I went ahead and bought a used E-mu 1820m on Craigslist here is Toronto. This is the same unit that is recommended on the Ref Recordings site just below the Media Monkey explanation. I paid the same price for it as a new 0404 so I figured, what the heck, I'll try to figure this out. I know that this was their top of the line unit and has now been discotinued and replaced with the 1616m but I believe it uses the same AtoD and DtoA's
  13. Thanks so much for you quick response - hope you don't mind a compliment but you right very lucidly!! Very easy for anon Computer guy to follow. 14. Hi Joel - If you happen to be on the forum - hope you don't mind answering a question for a Newbie! I am very interested in being able to play 24/176.4 files from my PC such as the Reference Recordings Hrx files. 1: I assume that the o4o4USB will allow me to do this. Correct? 2: Do you know what the differnece is between the black one and the white one? 3: Pardom my extreme ignorance. Could you explain the sequence of connections in and out of the o4o4? I just want to make sure I know what I am doing? I assume that you are going from the PC to the o4o4 via USB. Not sure what connec
  15. Thank you for your response. Question - Re your comment: "If your DAC has USB and SPDIF input, you have the option of using USB out from the PC obviously. However, better forget about USB transporting 24/192 (or /176.4) which is what you actually want. So, this one is done, because it leaves you with SPDIF." 1: Could you explain the above statement. I am not sure what you mean re the USB 2: Also, besdies the Julia do you know if the E-mu products will also accomplish what I am trying to do?
