  1. Referring to the changes in Windows moving me from 384K to 96K: I reinstalled the drivers and got no change. After two day where the computer had been restarted and some usb cables switched around I looked at the dac and the display said 384K. ??? All the up-scaling options were again available in Windows. I'll take it, but weird Windows stuff.
  2. Javier: My solutions to MQA problems: In More Settings: Use Exclusive Mode : On Force Volume: On Enable software decoding (MQB purple light fix a lot of issues) Then I cancelled Tidal, gave up on MQA and got Amazon Music High Res. Was running Windows upsampling at 384K (problem in repair described above.). Cheaper than Tidal with an Amazon prime account. Sounds good, at least at 384K. Tom
  3. From the Shiit website: The Cure for Noise and Glitches Have you ever heard strange noises from your USB DAC? Or have you had it “drop out” after the computer goes to sleep? Or does your computer have trouble recognizing your DAC at all? It could be due to noisy USB power, or USB port power management. Wyrd has you covered—Wyrd is the only USB decrapifier that includes a linear power supply (not a noisy switcher) and precision 2.5uV LM723 regulators with discrete pass elements for up to 200,000x less noise than what comes out of your USB port, up to 500mA—the full USB 2.0 s
  4. After the last Windows 10 update my S2 dac stopped working. Looking around and trying a few things it seemed that the 384K upsampling setting I was using had been dropped and that is why the dac stopped functioning. Scratching my head about the hows and whys of this. Anybody have any information, really sounded good at 384K. Now the highest upsampling is 96K. Have not listened long enough to say good or bad at 96K.
  5. Tidal MQA works fine for me. Has problems if I send another audio source to it mistakenly at the same time. Need to reset things after that.
  6. I would advise all to enjoy the hobby and the music. Participation in audio extremist views drives people away from the hobby, keeps prices high, and limits development because of a general lack of funding. Development is still required because even the best recording and playback equipment only hint at sounding like a "real" recreation of a live event. I look forward to the "real sounding recreation day" as I participate in the hobby. (The audio singularity?) In the mean time I am willing to listen to, but not be beat down by, all opinions and suggestions. The fighting is why I gave up
  7. Windows setup Solved: Found another menu with the settings I needed. Next to Streaming/Sound Output there is a grayed (More Settings) In More Settings: Use Exclusive Mode : On Force Volume: On Pass through MQA (disable software decoding): On (reading up on MQA it seened to describe software and hardware decoding together as the best, but right now I am happy to have decoding come out with the MQA light on and indicating 384K) Will play later) Thanks for everyone's help.
  8. Still no luck with this setup: Windows 10 Tidal Hifi Subscription: Yes, Active: Yes Tidal Desktop: Yes Tidal desktop setting at "Streaming Audio Quality Master" USB: Yes 16/44.1: Transmitted, no MQA light 24/192:Transmitted, no MQA light 32/384: Transmitted, no MQA lght Set Windows properties for S2 to default which resulted in it selecting 24/192. Everything is scaled to 24/192 including non-master recordings. Windows volume: Full MQA/Master song selected: Yes Latest firmware: 2.12 DAC never indicated 88.2k or 96k D
  9. Windows 10 Tidal Hifi Subscription: Yes, Active: Yes USB: Yes 16/44.1: Transmitted, no MQA light 24/192:Transmitted, no MQA light 32/384: Transmitted, no MQA lght Tidal Desktop: Yes Windows volume: Full MQA/Master song selected: Yes Latest firmware: 2.12 "You can always let the player decode MQA for you. That way you get a better result by configuring S2D properly and letting prior stages do MQA decoding." -Have not seen any setting for this option in Windows. No luck o far.
  10. I'm installing an S2 on a Windows 10 notebook running Tidal desktop. I can seem to get MQA to light up. Any hints? Thanks.
