  1. If you are asking for a non techie way of accomplishing this with "off the shelf" devices and without needing to access a computer I hardly doubt you will find any. I personally have helped others to experience HQPlayer sending them small PC's running the software, some users have decided the sound is so good that they can't turn back to their former systems (including known speakers manufacturers). I have done this at no cost just because I'm friendly, I don't sell PC's, I don't sell HQPlayer and I'm not associated with the industry at all but I provide no cost advice, you can take it or leav
  2. Very nice article Chris, as many others I'm familiar with Mitch and his guides over the years configuring convolution software (thanks Mitch) I will definitely check HLC

    HQ Player

Hi Jussi: You have probably seen this but just in case. https://www.wireguard.com/ Much faster than IPSEC and OpenVPN Included within the Linux kernel Runs in any device, even Raspberry Pi's Seems like a good case for your VPN if you don't have it working already :) Take care
  4. Because it is an open discussion, we all have our opinions (you and I included) and both are completely valid
  5. I'm with @AnotherSpin on this one, specifically when using balanced equipment less prone to cable colorations, but I guess based on your opinion I will be also wrong on so many levels.
  6. Check Turemetal, and Streacom Or maybe consider going with a Fractal chassis with fans
  7. I think this will be yours https://www.signalyst.eu/bins/naa/images/naa-4112-x64.7z
  8. You do know I agree for your system, but the sound quality with or without preamp depends of course on the DAC to be used, not all DACs analog outputs are the same just like not all amplifier inputs are the same, the "gain" will of course depend on source (DAC in this case), amp, and other parameters like output/input sensitivity (voltage), impedance and such, here you have quite a few combinations. But I understand in your system the sound could be best (to your ears and maybe mine too) with a preamp Digital volume designed with the correct filters, depth resolution and such wi
  9. For what exactly? just audiolinux with a DAC connected? or Audiolinux which will be upsampling with other options? the chassis depends mainly on the CPU heat to be released
  10. The M1 mini definitely looks like a good alternative for an inexpensive HQP setup, @Miska do you think running Ubuntu on the Mini will provide a good and stable platform for HQPe?

    HQ Player

It is not clear to me from your post but IME, and I'm running everything in Ubuntu not Windows, the biggest difference in upsampling was moving Roon away from HQPe and leaving HQPe alone with nothing else running, when you start getting in the EC modulators and high CPU usage in general Roon although it doesn't use much, maybe 3 to 5 percent of overall CPU, these "interruptions" into hqplayer processing and more importantly core distribution / coordination processes will impact as much subjectively speaking as 30 to 50 percent. I'm running a passive Ryzen 5600X with HQPe and moved
  12. Very nice review Chris, I especially like you decided to introduce the HQPlayer "variable" in it, this is something most reviewers leave out, which I understand to be more pragmatic about results but "reality" is many of us use HQPlayer and we wonder about its benefits and interaction with certain DACs, thank you for including it and for the detailed settings and comments. My experience with the terminator mimic yours in terms of preference for upsampling. Great review Luis
  13. We know, since the 1st alpha or beta release IIRC Can only speak of my own experience. 1. Started with a NUC 4 years ago, connected to my DAC (the DAC model for this comments is irrelevant), core i7 NUC, good results, noisy because of the fan onboard. Powered the NUC with Uptone's JS2 2. Added an NAA, cheap PC older generation Intel, fanless celeron, industrial type passive PC. Powered by the JS2, boost in quality. 3. Built a new server, passive HDPlex chassis with Ryzen 5600X, I can do 7EC with no problems on the passive and I'm happy with it, that said I

    HQ Player

Yes you do, it is the ALSA driver which is integrated with the kernel API, but this driver it is "usually" pretty standard, I have seen it fail on such environments (original Allo USB bridge is one of them which stopped working with the Terminator DAC after Oct 2019 update)

Thank you, so under Linux the May will work with none of the issues of the Thesycon's, maybe others though

    HQ Player

Hi @Quadman Just wanted to ask, so the May + HQP has interfacing issues due to drivers? is this something related to Windows, or Linux, or both? will the May accept 48k resampling from HQPe?
  17. Feel free to experiment but I would leave in automatic (in my systems I have it like that) I discovered after testing memory on different systems (for other applications not necessarily audio) that if you want a stable system it is better go with the defaults. Even underclocking and undervolting memory under its max specs (which you would think would not create any issues) it actually does and makes the memory to start generating errors (I've spent weeks running memtest pro for different types and settings). Of course an audio system doesn't have to be strictly stable as audio is really not a
  18. Right, forgot about the 3.3V,
  19. I'm sorry try "sudo route add -net netmask dev eno2" The problem it is definitely the multicast route missing due to the VPN updating the routing table (as Miska commented)
  20. Thanks I'm surprised you are using the HDPLex power and not going directly from the LPS's to the motherboard and EPS
  21. Thanks, what are you powering with 19V? an endpoint? for your server you need 12V and 5V right?
  22. With the Zeroflex rated at 240W you don't have to worry about the boost @Miska, I'm running a Dell 240W myself and the CPU and overall system is fine. @StreamFidelity is using the LPS which are "anemic" in the amount of power to be delivered compared to an SMPS (I know about the SQ opinions and such and I don't take sides on that, everyone is free to do their own choices), 2x P8's, are these the single our dual outputs? @StreamFidelity, the 5V seems it is only dual output.
  23. True, I might just add "if the CPU supports it in a stable fashion" the 11th Gen being a hybrid not only (based on the current reviews) runs hotter but has increased IPC and the voltage dynamics could be different. Based on his snapshots around 53W? max value
  24. Additionally and I don't know if this is your case but I have found issues myself with other VPN's which required using "specific ipsec supported routes" to be added for the VPN. Since you are using NordVPN (which I never have) Look for this option and turn it off if present "Invisibility on the LAN" turn off this option as well "cybersec" if it is in your client
  25. Check the routes as @Miska suggested on your SERVER PC not the NAA, since you are running Linux Mint (which I'm not directly familiar with but I'm familiar with the others) If you are using netplan (modern linux does) for the network config be sure on the adapter (network adapter that is) connected to the NAA you have this entry on your netplan (in my case eno1 is my network adapter) eno1: dhcp4: no addresses: [youripaddresshere] routes: - to: scope: link netplan apply (after) there you are adding a static route
