  1. 1. Thanks for taking time to clarify this 2. Soundwise u have one of the - if not the best upsampling player in the world 3. Naim is Hifi highest end and superior to most of the brands mentioned on this entire forum 4. This alone would require u to support their protocol like Damien does and certainly not them - how dare u? Bryston, McIntosh, Accuphase, all of them and potentially others have to make nice for HQPlayer? Is it so damn difficult to implement UPnP support side by side with your own protocol? Chris
  2. So, I have tried to put M2Tech Hiface USB to SPDIF Converter in between the PC and the Naim. This is working -> HQP through WASAPI but it doesn't sound good and I am doubling up the DACs as the NDX2 has got a DAC built in. LAN with only Roon sounds better. LAN with only Audirvana sounds better. Is there another trick I can use to make HQP detect the Naim NDX2 over LAN?
  3. Again, Audirvana finds the Naim player on the network, HQPlayer does not. IS this because HQPlayer can't or because of another reason? There is no USB-connection between PC/Mac and the player of course.
  4. After using the search function with no success I am asking: I have both Audirvana 3.5 and HQP 4 installed on a MacMini, which is connected through LAN. I have a Naim NDX Streamer, also connected through LAN. Audirvana finds my NDX2 as a UNPNP - network streamer / player and I can play music through LAN. HQPlayer4 doesn't find anything. Is this correct or intended, because streamers would require to have HQPlayer NAA installed? Thanks, Chris
  5. @Miska: I find it very interesting and cool that a lot of people change filters per type or style of music. I am using Roon as a frontend and going into HQP because I find it more appealing and comfortable just by its secondary features. I know from testing in my setup that HQ Player standalone sounds better to me. Either way, I have to logon to my Windows 2016 machine from MS Remote desktop to change settings. No issue with that as long as I find one setting for all - which I learn from this thread is a compromise. In particular because I listen to all kinds of music f
  6. I am and have been converting all PCM to DSD 128 in both settings. PCM conversion has more punch, SDM conversion has more detail in my setup if that answers your question. And closed-form-16m sounds even better than "poly-sinc-xtr-2s" - again - in my setup.
  7. Boy, closed-form-16M, ASDM7, 48kx128 is possible on my MacMini and slightly beats the same setup with poly-sinc-xtr-2s. There are some cracks indicating that the CPU is totally pitched out but the sound quality, oh my god! It is strange though, if I run my standard setup with "poly-sinc-xtr-2s" and just switch by the pull down menu to "closed -form-16m" and restart the same song it sounds less impressiv than if I change to "closed-form-16m" in the settings. "Closed-form-16m" also does not accept the 48kx128 and shows 5.6448M as a result while "poly-sinc-xtr-2s" shows 6
  8. Hi, It is easier with GUI, isn't it? It is a very good idea to have an image but it will work all the way. I found this for you: "With AO 2.20B5 when answering YES to Roon Support the Media Support is added - no need for the media pack from MS." I cannot remember this error message that you got on my machine, I only had troubles with the network setup as mentioned before. Did you also replace the shell with Roon? I am 100% sure Phil will be able to help you quickly and if it takes some time for him to answer in here then send him a message through his w
  9. Ok, here are my actions that worked in this order and right after first boot of Win2016: in tool local network policies change to "privat" AND "user can change" Set fixed IP, Gateway and DNS Set Computer network name Reboot Check if router / switch can see Windows 2016 Check remote access to Windows 2016 with Microsoft remote desktop from any machine If you use BootCamp, do it know and install latest drivers Reboot Check for Windows 2016 updates and install Check for unknown devices and de-activate them Reboot Remo
  10. Frederick, it is different with 2016 than with 2012. I wrote myself a complete installation manual if I have to do it but I don't have access right now. So what you have is exactly what I had: Roon can see the core and gets stuck in "initializing". You must edit the network policies in 2016, otherwise it won't work. There are several things to do in order to make 2016 see your private network as private as it is set as "public" per default. This is the key. Without this it won't work and it is not sufficient to allow for remote connection and/or toggling DHC
  11. I can totally agree with you in latest brain research findings. As far as science nows there is much more to discover then we ever thought and music is a total experience, not only with your ears. We know, that even deaf people can experience music with their bodies. That is all common sense by now. Your words help understanding different options and controversial discussions on how hardware "sounds", especially loudspeakers and certain tweaks: What we believe about this and that is anything but the "truth" but it is all about ourselves, a total reflection of the way we are as each
  12. Are you absolutely sure that you are excited when you are excited?
  13. And it integrates much nicer with the rest of my equipment, both size and looks.
  14. Unless you need the Macbook for something else you can get a lot of pretty good stuff for 3 grand - but as you want to replace your Air it might work for you. However, my Pro sits on my lap while I am listening to music. I only control Roon and HQP with it and go surf the internet, read/write emails etc. because it is my working machine and I love listening to music while working. Therefore I would not consider your conclusion for my setup. Chris
  15. However, in my mind there are average recordings we still like because the song is simply good. The quality of the original recording to me is part of the story behind the song, the band, the circumstances at that time. I am not shy to give an example that can of course be judged differently: The first three AC/DC LPs have a lot to do with my youth and include a number of songs I really like. But even the original LPs and the first CDs are really not amongst good recordings in my collection, too harsh, too rough, not very well balanced but with high dynamics (>10), regardless,
  16. Good point. I believe that as humans we are always looking for a reference system. Imagine you are driving fast. How fast you are driving is displayed in your cockpit, but your reference system is also your body feedback and your relative speed in comparison with others around you. There are a couple of "hearing reference systems" I have personally come across and the following is my personal experience and not any kind of truth or universal rule: 1. My wife: If the music doesn't touch her, even it is one of her favorite songs, then the sound quality isn't good enough.
  17. Well, I do not know why, but I can switch on the same song in just seconds and it is absolutely significant. The combination of Roon+HQP ist better than Roon alone but worse than HQP alone by far. However, to me it only matters for serious listening, for all other requirements I run Roon + HQP.
  18. Agreed, HQP is now way ahead of Roon+HQP on my machine, especially with 48/128. If there was only a remote control for OSX...Easy listening = Roon +HQP, serious listening = only HQP through remote desktop. I got rid of all the ifi stuff, just SOtm and a good USB cable are doing the rest. Chris
  19. Hi Phil, you are welcome. Need a hint from you maybe: I had to go back to the GUI Version once more (re-installation) because I could not connect to ROON from the remote to the core. However, remote access seemed to be working, I had run AO in ultimate with conservative settings but ROON remote always stopped at "initializing". So something was wrong, I spend hours figuring it out, no way, and so I found a more drastic but efficient way. I held my new network setup (all Unifi with USG) for the culprit and in order to rule that out, I did a fresh install
  20. Hi, to whom it may concern: Managed to install Windows 2016 Server Core on my Mac Mini (2014) today. One of the ISO files needs to be split with command DISM because it is bigger than 4GB (FAT 32 limitation). After that installation works fine. Boot Camp drivers for Windows 10 are being used. Apple bootcamp.exe does not work in Core mode, but that has been like this with 2012 R2 already. However, it does no longer complain about a missing dll after running AO and I can still boot into MacOS but that won't hardly ever be necessary. Because of t
  21. Yes, in my manual it says what the maximum data rate is. However, I am throwing 6.12 at my TDAI right now and it displays 5.6 but sounds better with 48k than with 44,1 x128... So I would try to get the manual from the webpage and look it up or google it. Chris
  22. Still sometimes missing the first second of a song and that just happens with this setting, seems to be really heavy...
  23. Welcome. Just figured that TDAI cannot process 48k*128 and display max rate which is 5.1xxx. Funny, still sounds great. 48k*64 is within spec of my DAC easily and still sounds better than 44,1*128. How do you like the setting on your MAC? Note that I run Windows 2012 though.. Chris
