    HQ Player

Hi @Miska When doing "DSD to PCM" conversion in HQPlayer, can you help me understand the pipeline that the input stream (let's assume DSD64) undergoes? Is it: PCM Conversion (sinc-M) > PCM Noise Filter (fast-lin) > Filter Nx (sinc-M) > Dither (LNS15)? My Sample Rate (/ Limit) is set to 768k. What do the two steps "PCM Conversion" and "Filter Nx" do? Both with the same setting of sinc-M. This is just a wild guess, but does PCM conversion take the DSD stream from 1/2.8224MHz to 32/88.2kHz, and then Filter Nx from 32/88.2 to 32/705.6?
  2. This would be a very pertinent comparison, well within the capabilities of both machines. Very interesting point, and one that I've wondered myself. If so, it also gives a path forward (with PCM1536) that does not require heavy lifting in terms of CPU utilization.
  3. This is now my preferred mode of listening. Cue up a local album in HQPlayer, hit Play then physically disconnect the network. For good measure I quit JPLAY and Roon Server. And no second guessing about the effect of the upstream network. Just stunning!

  8. Hi Ted, Actually, you may have hit on the perfect solution — use an offline HQPlayer Pro to generate the upsampled files. Yes it requires a lot of storage (which is relatively cheap), but it does mean that during playback, you can adhere to a bit-perfect regime. Of course, this is still a problem, and a real head-scratcher. But for DSD upsamplers, this may be a small price to pay to optimize the playback path.
  9. Hi Ted, As you've been following this thread, you've seen us go through all combinations of distributed and standalone topologies in the quest for SQ. Roy's excellent experiments a year or more ago with Roon showed that when holding the endpoint constant, and varying the quality of the upstream server, that upstream server's speed and quality (PSU etc) had an effect on SQ. Ultimately, we found the ideal (at least for some of us) to be a standalone server like the Extreme. But of course this is predicated on very low utilization, which is a consequence of bit-perfect or PCM upsampli
  10. Adding to Roy’s response, which is spot on. The nice thing is you don’t have to push the Extreme to its limit at all either. Using HQPlayer to do PCM upsampling to 705.6/768 is a negligible load on the Extreme, AND it allows the FPGA on the DAC to run idle. Win/win.
  11. I sympathize with Jussi. Those of us in the SW development business have probably lost count of how much this happens. Customers will pick a user story that you didn’t prioritize as that important, and then insist it is the best thing since sliced cheese!
  12. Roy raises an extremely important point, one which I must re-emphasize. All of my — and I believe, his — SQ findings on both custom server/Euphony/Stylus and Extreme/Windows/HQPlayer have been either with bit-perfect playback (no upsampling), or PCM upsampling to 705.6/768, which has a negligibly light CPU load. As far as I'm concerned, all bets are off once you start using these servers for DSD512 with filters like poly-sinc-xtr-mp. I'm not saying there isn't an optimization path for this use case, but it is likely different from what we have been discussing. I certainly do not claim, and I m

These cables are constructed using Paul's DC6FS cable, but adapted for this unique application. The two cables are: DC18FSXL-0.75m-M6: Length: 0.75m This cable uses 3 sets of DC6 cable (hence the designation of DC18) PSU connector: Jaeger Device connector: Molex 6-pin (hence M6 designation) This is used in conjunction with HDPlex DC-ATX adapters (either 400W or 800W) I used a single 19V DR rail on my SR-7 to connect this to the power input (M6) of the 800W DC-ATX adapter. DC24FSXL-0.75m-M8: Length: 0.75m This cable uses 4 sets of DC6 cable (hence the designation of DC24) PSU connector: Jaeger Device connector: Molex 8-pin (hence M8 designation) I used a single 12V DR rail on my SR-7 to connect this to the EPS input (M8) oon the motherboard. These are truly the Rolls Royce of computer power cables! I compared these with Ghent JSSG Neotech OCC cables I had Ghent make for me, and great as the Ghent cables are, these Paul Hynes cables provide another quantum of dynamics and coherence. If your PSU uses different output connectors, and you are handy with DIY, you can replace the Jaeger with the connectors of your choice. Alternatively, you can contact Paul to do it for you for a reasonable fee. MSRP: $1035 (£789) Asking: $700 Includes free shipping and PP fees within continental US. So each "cable" in this pair being offered for sale is actually 2 physical cables with Y-adapters on each end. Here is the price breakout of the components in the pair, along with MSRP: $4500: 4x (2pair) 1.5m HFC CT-2 S/PDIF cables, RCA-RCA. Note, 2 of these together are used per connection. $500: 4x 1BNC-2RCA adapters, sourced from Audio Sensibility $180 Furutech Nano contact fluid at the Y-connectors $70 JSSG360 shielding on all 4 cables. These cables are the best I've heard between the Chord M Scaler and DAVE or TT2. They would work equally well as word clock cables in other applications. A note of caution: these cables are heavy, so cable management is essential, especially to reduce the strain on the components' BNC connectors. But with that done, they will reward you with truly exceptional SQ. Cables will ship in the sturdy Pelican case shown in the picture. MSRP: $5250 + labor Asking: $1600 firm Includes free shipping and PP fees within continental US. NOTE for overseas buyers: you will have to additionally pay actual shipping and international PP fees.
