  1. My key point was to turn turbo on, and low-powered mode off, then tune the max frequency. My own finding was that it was in this mode that the LPS quality and tendency to harshness can manifest. Hence the tuning process of adjusting max frequency. Did you turn turbo on and try this? I'm not trying to convince you one way or another. Just want to make sure you're aware of my path. If you're unwilling to try it, that's your call.
  2. Ok @cat6man. Just trying to help. Clearly my point is not getting through. Good luck with with your experiments.
  3. Well, think about it. With Turbo off, your frequency is capped at 1.9GHz - the base frequency. With Turbo On, the frequency can go up to the peak of 4.2GHz (see https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/124968/intel-core-i7-8650u-processor-8m-cache-up-to-4-20-ghz.html). This region from base to peak is where the potential for better dynamics and transient coherence occur, but your PSU needs to be up to the task. Many PSUs will devolve into harshness in this range. The Max Freq control gives you a dial to find the operating point between 1.9 and 4.2 just at the onset of harshness (ov
  4. Some Euphony tunings: Do not constrain the BIOS. Leave it wide open. By this I mean, turn on Turbo boost, HT, and don't run in low power mode. Then, play with max frequency in Advanced settings, starting at the max turbo freq and stepping down in small steps until any trace of harshness is gone. With a really good PSU, you may not need to do this. This is a big contributor to transient accuracy. Apply core isolation. I'm assuming you have HT on — if not, turn it on. Try something like this: 0-1 stylus 2-3 gstp 4-7 If othe

  6. Respectably, but the Sablon 2020 is a notch better. The one that gives the Sablon a run for its money is the Ultimate - see my other listing. I'm torn about selling it, but with my current arrangement, 0.5m is just not long enough for me.

  11. Was trying to stream this last night, and Qobuz only had the Coriolan available, while the other tracks were not. It's all there this morning. Listening now. Sounds wonderful! I'm a big fan of these guys.
  12. Very interesting findings @hols. Thank you very much for going back and doing this comparison. I am also enjoying HQP+NAA on the Extreme, and there is indeed an SQ bump from separating the noisier (relatively, since PCM upsampling is very light) HQPlayer process doing upsampling and the NAA doing rendering onto different processors. This is just another example of why having 2 physical NUMA nodes (aka processors) enables a raft of optimizations that were just not possible on my single processor custom server. I'm intrigued by the benefit of PCM1411.2/1536. Did you compa
  13. First rule of buying audio gear — use your own ears! Use reviews and other people's opinions as a guide, perhaps to shortlist candidates, and then try before you buy. It looks like you are doing that, and good for you. If it doesn't deliver enough value to your ears, then that's all that ultimately matters. That said, I am somewhat surprised by your experience. I don't have any experience with the D90 DAC unfortunately. The Chord M Scaler is not a good fit with the D90. The M Scaler needs to deliver its upsampled signal (up to 768 kHz) to the DAC via 2 S/PDIF

Thanks very much! I’ll go through these.

I don’t want to pre-judge. I want to hear DSD presented to the DAVE in DSD+ mode and form my own impressions. The point is I have a lot of DSD content, so it is what it is. I just want to find the optimal SQ. I’ve tried DSD to PCM. Now I want to see what DSD to DSD upsampled sounds like.

@Miska What modulator would you recommend for DSD64 to DSD256 or DSD512 upsampling? This is for DSD streams to be fed to a DAVE in DSD+ mode, which can accept up to DSD512 native. At this output rate > 20MHz, should I be mainly looking at "DSD7 256+fs" and "AMSDM7 512+fs?" Or are there any other ones you recommend?

Ah, this is the key nugget. I didn't recall seeing this in the manual, but very possible I missed it. Thanks for clarifying!
