As an IT guy and a music major in college, computer audio brings together two joys of my life. For music I prefer classical, but enjoy some jazz and a little pop from my youth. I was delighted when we could shelve the discs and move to all-digital listening libraries at home. I enjoy some DIY with the source server because I've been working with software a long time. I'm still learning about hardware. l think computer audio will continue to advance throughout our lifetimes.
Regarding audiophilia, I would advise focusing on musical enjoyment first, and give the rat race for gear a distant second. When there are budget conflicts with more important things in life, learn to be content with what you have. True happiness in life is not in these material possessions or in the temporary emotional stimulation they provide. Nothing else in life compares to having a relationship with infinite, eternal God through a simple act of faith alone in Jesus Christ alone. Anyone who wants this can have it. As with every other generation in human history, this is not religion or anything of merit we do, but solely the invitation of His matchless grace (Ephesians 2:8-9; Genesis 15:6; Isaiah 55:3, 6; Joel 2:32; John 3:16; Acts 16:31).
