  1. I think I had the same problem as you. I can now rip to a USB stick, not the server solution. I'll PM you.
  2. I managed to have the USB flash drive working perfectly, but trying the server methode with the ISO2DSD program I get the same error message as you do. Whenever you find a solution please let me know.
  3. Bought a Sony bdp-s590 yesterday on the cheap. Have used many hours today to set it up. Where struggling with PuTTY. Was unable to Telnet the Sony machine. Finally I read on page 111 " 2. Discrepancy in Telnet method AutoScript file Takeaway: Although “inetd” is presumably the correct daemon to launch on other players to enable Telnet access, it does not seem to be the case for the Sony S590. Inspect your AutoScript and AutoScript.TSS and if necessary replace “inetd” with “telnetd” before attempting a Telnet connection to your S590." Checked it and that fixed my problem. Voila. Now the 1st disk should be ripped on the USB flash drive. Next is on .. Thanks for excellent work.
  4. There was some DVD-Audio discs that were watermarked. Can't remember which ones. I googled and in Stereophile back in 2000 there was a poll about this https://www.stereophile.com/content/what-do-you-think-watermarking-sacd-or-dvd-audio-discs Looks like there was no hurray for that 17 years ago. The story continues. The discussions are the same, only new technology.
  5. This is is one of the reasons I don't listen very much to "modern" music. It's not equal and will only last a year. My hope is that f.ex EDM goes away in a few years. I know. I am not modern. But, who cares. Many like EDM and it's part of the modern music. Me myself do not like it. Mainly because I am not able to listen to it for a very long time. I like to listen to an album on my gear and love it when I feel in my heart and soul that the music has been loved by those who made it and also understood by does who produced and mastered the album. DR is just an indicator and can give a guidance if it's squueeezed or not (nothing more). In addition I don't think the audiophile community is 1%. Maybe divide it by 10 or 100. We are the few and the proud . We like what sounds good to us. And we buy stuff compared to those who only stream. I believe you would find that we are a very good revenue base and have many copies of the same album Just to be sure we don't miss a great opportunity to have the "best" version of an album.
  6. I would like to speak about a tiny company that IMO have promoted audiophile music in many different formats to give the audiophile listeners choices to select from. The company is 2L. If you like classical music you will not be disappointed. I read at the cover from some of my discs : TrondheimSolistene: Divertimenti (from 2008) They include audio on both SACD and BluRay disc. The selections are: SACD: Stereo: DSD (DSD64) and CD (16-44.1) ; Mch: 5.1 Surround (DSD64) BluRay: LPCM 24-192 (Stereo + 5.1 Surround), DTS-HD Master Audio (5.1 Surround 24-192), Dolby True HD (5.1 Surround 24-192); Dolby Digital (5.1 surround 24-48). TrondheimSolistene: Souvenir (from 2012) BluRay Audio: LPCM 24-192 (Stereo ); DTS-HD Master Audio (5.1 Surround 24-192), DTS-HD Master Audio (7.1 Surround 24-96) and 9.1 Auro-3D 24-96 Mozart - Grieg: werke für zwei klaviere (dena piano duo) (from 2009) They include audio on both SACD and BluRay. The selections are: SACD: Stereo: DSD (DSD64) and CD (16-44.1) ; Mch: 5.1 Surround (DSD64) BluRay: LPCM 24-192 (Stereo), DTS-HD Master Audio (5.1 Surround 24-192) Their catalogue is mostly classical, but wow what a sound. Another album that is fantastic is "In Folk Style" also by TrondheimSolistene.
  7. I think that would take too much time from the developers working on the core part of Foobar as they focus on the basics for the player. Foobar is a powerful open component architecture allowing third-party developers to extend functionality of the basic player, including the ability to fully replace the user interface. Foobar is relying on others to extend functonality. SACD is f.ex done by Maxim. To install the SACD plugin it's a must do to read the "Foobar for Dummies". In addition there is an upnp plugin. Have a look at the Component page at Foobar's website. I find Foobar very easy to use and you can get it set-up to look very Roon-alike based on the DarkOne skins. If you have look at the component page for Foobar it's quite many that can be installed. Most of them are just a .dll extension. I think the reason The plugins live there own life is that the plugin "owners" then feel responsibiity for it and the users of the component can ask the developer directly.
  8. Been reading this thread and me myself settled on using Foobar several years ago. Never looked back. Tried several solutions at the time, but none of them where close to Foobar including the DarkOne 3.1 skin plus the SACD plugin. My stereo collection is stored on 2 x 4TB disk (plus 2x backup, so 3 copies). One disk stores music in PCM (Flac) and the other DSD (DSF) files. All stored in a tree structure in the following structure ; Artist => Album => Songs. I have had to store on different diskdrives because of diskspace neeeded for my collection. I have CD's in a "PCM" folder (16 bits 44.1KHz). All higher formats in a "PCM HD" folder . The other disk is for DSD files in DSF fomat. I think I have approximatly the same "volume" of files in PCM as in DSD. Currently I do not do upsampling because my Wyred4Sound DAC 2DSDse handles "all" formats on the fly. The Foobar skin that Tedgo built fits my needs perfectly. I use my 42" TV to navigate and when tagging is done "correctly" it serves my needs and sounds fantastic. One of the most important things I have used a lot of time on is to get the tagging of the files correctly. I know there might be other nice solutions out there and I also bought JRiver som years ago, but never liked the GUI. Tedgo is now updating DarkOne. I thought I could give some links that might be useful if anyone is interested in Foobar. Check also Foobar Mobile for Android and IOS. Links: DarkOne 3.1: DarkOne v3.1 by tedgo on DeviantArt DarkOne 4.0: DarkOne v4 by tedgo on DeviantArt DarkOne 4.0Mod_V1: DarkOne4Mod v1 by tedgo on DeviantArt SACD decoder: https://sourceforge.net/projects/sacddecoder/ Foobar for Dummies: https://diyaudioheaven.wordpress.com/digital/pc-software/foobar-2000-for-dummies-part-3-new-experimental-sacd-plugin-v-0-9-x/ Great source for learning and setting up Computer Audio: http://www.thewelltemperedcomputer.com/index.html And of course this site is a must read to learn about Computer Audio. I have the last year ripped everything I have and only use a PC to playback music. In addition I find Foobar to be perfect also for Multi Channel music. I have around a 1000 MCH disks stored in PCM and DSD format in addition to my 2channel ripped disks. All the best. And remember to listen to the music. Sometimes good enough is good enough. And when free even better :-)
  9. I hope this DAC will do both Multichannel and stereo in both PCM and DSD.
  10. Specification of the The ES9038PRO SABRE DAC; ESS Technology :: ES9038PRO http://www.esstech.com/files/7414/5193/1716/ES9038PRO_Product_brief_121715.pdf
  11. I agree 100% with you. All my music is in FLAC and DSF format stored on my own HDD and NAS. Available in either Stereo or Multichannel. I have currently no interest in MQA. Neither has my wife. She has not heard of it and couldn't care less. :-)
  12. 2L has their testbench here; 2L High Resolution Music .:. free TEST BENCH All their albums are originally recorded in DXD and available in a wide range of resolutions, including DXD, DSD64 and DSD128 and now MQA along with physical products like CD, SACD, Pure Audio Blu-ray and vinyl. Morten Lindberg, the man behind 2L, says that a really good recording should be able to bodily move the listener. Welcome to the nordic sound ;-) fiske
  13. For those who would like to test different formats of the same piece of music I would recommend to check out 2L - the Nordic Sound At the top right there is a pull down menu "2L Brand Store". One of the pull downs says "Test Bench HD Audio files". The formats are DXD, Flac and DSD in stereo and 5.1 . 2L has been at the forefront for many years in the HD Audio business.
  14. Just thought I should write about some findings I have had the last week. Might be that I have been slow, but that happens. I use Windows 8.1 and Foobar w/ DarkOne 3.1 Skin as my player. In addition I use the SACD plug-in from Maxim. I have up untill now been playing SACD ISO files and DSD files and the DAC-2 DSDse DSD64 light switch on and sounds fantastic. Most of my music files are even though in FLAC format (44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4 and 192). Last week I made some changes in the setup of the SACD, foo_dsd_asio, plugin. This points to the W4S ASIO driver. Then I configured the "PCM to DSD Method" and set it to "SDM type D" and "fs : DSD64". What now happens is that my old CD's ripped to 16bit 44.1KHz flac files are upsampled to DSD in my computer. Sent to the DAC-2 DSDse the DSD64 light comes on. The sound. Just one word. Incredible. I have never heard my ripped CDs sound better. What is happening?? The Flac files are beeing upsampled from 44.1KHz x 64 = 2.82MHz. 64 times. Am I correct? Sent to the DAC-2 DSDSse it's the most wonderful sound I have ever heard from Frank Zappa's "Joes Garage". Frank Zappa in DSD. wow. If I understand correctly the flow in the DAC-2 DSDse is another sending a PCM signal through it compared to DSD? Especially my ripped CDs has come to life. I hear things I have never heard before and the overall music picture has improved. I also have JRiver v20, but use primarilly Foobar as music player with the DarkOne 3.1 skin plus many plugin's. This looks really good on my 42" Plasma TV.
  15. Listening to Rod Stewart "Merry Christmas, Baby" (flac 16-44) from 2012 through the DSDse. What an wonderful relaxing christmas music and a wonderful performance from the W4S DAC. Have a nice week-end everyone.
