  3. Up for sale is my Empirical Audio Overdrive Diamond SX - Low hours use. I live close to the builder/designer Steve Nugent. This unit is in immaculate condition as are the internal boards. Everything is current with most updated boards and updates. I am upgrading to the TotalDac 12 system. The Ethernet input is one aspect that sets this unit apart. No need for a server. Empirical Audio never goes on sale and Diamond SX rarely is seen for sale used on the market, especially one in this mint condition. $6900 plus shipping. Retail is $13000. Although I prefer Ethernet direct to I2S "Interchange" unit. This can be switched to a new XMOS properly galvanically isolated USB module. A new design USB board is available: "First new fab USB module PCB is back for the Off-Ramp 6. Built one by hand and it worked first-time. Complicated board because it's galvanically isolated (the right way). " I have seen this new board first hand and it is the best design on the market. To successfully galvanically isolate without introducing new jitter. There are advantages both ways. If USB is your preference, we can discuss a swap out. See Empirical Audio Interchange - The Interchange is built into this dac but has the advantage of direct I2S conversion with shortest signal path possbile: http://www.empiricalaudio.com/products/short-block **This dac is also in Steve's possession to be the first to receive the new oscillator upgrades for the turbo clock module! Direct Ethernet to I2S traveling less than 2" to the clock! **We will ship internationally and switch to proper voltages before shipping from manufacturer. Look at the most recent review for more details. The Overdrive has extremely low noise and overall coloration.”Steven Plaskin, Feb. 2018“If I were to sum up the Overdrive SE's sonic qualities in just a few words, those words would be clean, accurate, precise and fast. By comparison to the Overdrive SE, most of the other DACs I've auditioned sound veiled and slow... The Overdrive is incredibly resolving, and its detail is a result of exceptional clarity..It is outstanding in every way, outperforms many more expensive DACs and I unequivocally give it my highest recommendation.”Laurence Borden, Dagogo, Jan. 2015“…my independent impressions of the Overdrive DAC were confirmed when I made direct comparisons to other highly-regarded DACs. The Overdrive emerged as my preferred DAC.”Ed Momkus, Dagogo, Mar. 2011“…regardless of how I employed the Overdrive DAC I was aware that I was listening to the best USB DAC I had ever reviewed.”Steven Stone, The Absolute Sound, Feb. 2010Award Tas Golden Ear 2010 SmallThe Overdrive DAC received The Absolute Sound ‘Golden Ear’ Award 2010-----Overdrive® SX USB DAC/Pre:A World-Class Digital to Analog Converter with volume control and either USB or Ethernet interface, as well as other interfacesThe Overdrive SX DAC is a breakthrough audio product, our third generation of this DAC. Our original Overdrive and the follow-on Overdrive SE won awards and accolades, but the sound quality of the SX is in another league. If you want the music experience that moves your soul, the Overdrive SX can deliver this. It is detailed without being harsh, dynamic from top to bottom, quiet enough to deliver the blackest backgrounds and precise enough to deliver the deepest, widest and most focused image you have ever experienced. Very 3-D presentation, provided your room setup is optimum. You will easily hear the difference between different formats, like FLAC, ALAC and .wav. Even 44.1 PCM tracks will sound like hi-res DSD or MQA. It actually makes these hi-res formats unnecessary. The Overdrive SX does not support DSD.It is available with our excellent low-jitter 192 asynchronous XMOS-based isolated USB interface or our excellent low-jitter 192 Ethernet Renderer interface (DLNA/UPnP) built-in. Either of these deliver data to the D/A with 10psec of jitter (jitter plots below). In addition to one of these two interfaces, the Overdrive also has S/PDIF coax input on BNC connector and single-ended I2S input on RJ-45 connector. The Overdrive SX has balanced and single-ended outputs, but the single-ended RCA outputs should primarily be used for a subwoofer. The Overdrive is best used with balanced outputs. If your equipment does not accept balanced signals, we can provide our Final Drives to change from balanced to single-ended. Even though the Overdrive SX is a Sigma-Delta modulator architecture, it delivers the live sound quality of NOS and R2R tube DACs, without having the tubes to wear-out. It is more accurate and more dynamic than any R2R DAC we have heard.Because of the excellent volume control technology, the Overdrive SX DAC enables you to play music from your computer directly to your amp, achieving unparalleled sound quality. All you need is the Overdrive and a PC or a Mac, an amplifier and speakers and you are ready for music. The Overdrive will also improve the playback from your CD transport or other devices like Sonos, but we recommend using our Synchro-Mesh re-clocker to reduce jitter from those first. Once you start using the computer for music, you will never go back to spinning CDs. Playback using the computer will be superior to the best CD transport you have heard, even when playing low-res CD rips, provided you use optimum playback software and quality cabling. Once you have an Overdrive, we can assist you with the ancillary things needed to achieve optimum performance, like cables, software, re-clockers, isolators etc..The Overdrive design philosophy is minimalist, with one of the simplest analog paths ever devised. The Overdrive provides innovative solutions for the five most important issues with digital sources:-----"Greetings Everyone.I wanted to update you regarding Steve Nugent's Empirical Overdrive Diamond SX with the optional internal galvanic isolated Ethernet direct I2S converter cpu. I have run the unit 24/7 for over 1000 hours and I must admit the caps needed this time to break in. This will be the first dac that I felt needed over 6 weeks of almost continuous play to break in. However, this is one instance where patience paid dividends.Since we all have our own perception and certainly favor different qualities, I am not going to delve into a lengthy review. The qualities that stand out and I believe most would agree, the dac is well balanced on all fronts and certainly demonstrates design implementation is more important than the dac chip itself. Historically, I have been approached by others who felt the ODSE was overly analytical. I humbly disagreed as I found it to be detailed, accurate and perhaps unforgiving. While I found the SE emotionally engaging, the SX is addictive. The more dacs I audition, I find myself with a preference to non-oversampling design implementation. My goal is to compare this unit to a R2R ladder dac, Totaldac, and will report my results. At 4x the price, it would have to engage me on an entirely different level. Steve's dac chip is proprietary and I feel discussing design theory should be left to the electrical engineers. At first blush, I had found little difference between the ODSE and the ODSX. Over time the Diamond SX bloomed, creating an even more precise presentation of the music. Well-recorded intimate recordings immersed me into a room of musicians. Big venue live recordings placed me back from the stage, closer to the soundboard, creating a deep and viable soundstage. Both the ODSE and the ODSX have been the best interpolating PCM data and recreating an accurate presentation of the recording, especially piano, wind instruments, and particularly the mid and upper range of percussion decay. I still hold to my initial assessment years ago. I have yet to find a DSD dac that performs better than Steve’s implementation of PCM. However, I have not heard a ground up designed DSD only (non PCM) dac.The chassis is no different that the ODSE. The faceplate now states SX in place of SE and the knob has a very subtle recessed diamond. Nice touch but for those who upgrade their SE to SX, I would keep your old faceplate and save money. The rear panel is the same. Mine had a manual cutout where the Ethernet input replaced the USB. This does bring me to another point: For those of you who will upgrade, the ODSE/X run hot. The morphology of the circuit boards change and this will affect the soldering. I highly recommend you pay the extra nominal fee and use a virgin board. Longevity is essential. While I am sure Steve will service these units well into retirement, save yourself the headache. Those of us who owned these units before know these units run hot. While breaking in, I ran the unit in my office on my desk, which is quartz composite. The unit ran hot, up to 208* over the Ethernet board. Steve assured me this is not an issue. When I placed in my system on Bubinga wood, the temperature dropped by 50* while being relocated in direct sunlight and reset to high-output line out. Surfaces matter, ventilation matters. I have run this dac hard without failures on any level. The Ethernet DNLA/UPnP is simpler, more robust, and strait forward. Unlike USB, Ethernet packets of data are checked for errors and packets with errors are resent. The more I read about USB implementation, more validating why I despised it and found it universally inferior to AES/EBU. ROON uses its own RAAT protocol in place of DNLA/UPnP. The third party company which designed the Ethernet to I2S converter CPU chip has no interest in RAAT. ROON states they will implement DNLA but with no timeline. Because of this current incompatibility, I have not pursued ROON at this juncture. One manufacture who uses this CPU has figured a work around and was able to implement ROON RAAT. However this was not to an I2S conversion. Through Bubble UPnP and Linn Kazoo (both free) I am able to stream Tidal without any issue. Linn Kazoo is not on the same league as ROON or even Tidal’s own controller. To say it plainly, the user interface sucks. There are many third party controllers. Some are free, while some are cheap to purchase. They all work well, and I give credit to this third party manufacturer. Not all Ethernet dacs/Renderers have this level of performance. Please note: I find those controllers that send a file direct from NAS to the DAC without processing sound better. Those who have interest in this topic please PM me for more detail and discussion. I would love to learn where others have found success and discovered absolute ‘do not’s’.I wish to commend Steve on a well designed dac. Thank you for reigniting my passion for this hobby. This last year has been somewhat frustrating for me. High-end components do not necessarily play well together and this certainly has been a journey. When my wife leaves a concert and says that sounded as good as listening at home, she is complementing the venue…and Steve the credit belongs to you."
  4. Paul Hynes/Steve Nugent design. I bought this to run my Empirical Audio Dac by Wi-Fi to Ethernet converter. I never used it once. This is a new item. Empirical only sells these units when tied to another Empirical electronic with Ethernet input. They never go on sale used and are never on sale.LPS can handle up to 4 A but has 3 A fuse.Upper USB port is signal in and lower USB port with cable is signal out.My price is firm.$1000 new, $800 Plus Shipping, PayPal or bank transfer.
  5. I moved away from home built server since commercial servers are evolving and becoming easy to use and retain great sonic qualities. The power supply for this unit created noise in my system so I tossed it. Any good power supply would work great. I decided not to replace it since the new owner would wish to use their preferred power supply. This unit has many goodies and evolved into 3-4K in hardware and software. Some are listed below.... audiophile optimizer windows server 2012 r2 paul pang red cable 80 gb SLC SSD jcat usb card
  6. I have two of these Glass Toslink cables. I no longer need them $85 new. $35. No issues. Change in gear setup made these redundant. Two cables are available - $35 each. Shipping. $8.
  7. Another review with favorable review from these unknown cable: http://www.theaudiobeat.com/equipment/allnic_audio_int_sc.htm Having first hand look at various manufacturers from Korea. I like what is being offered these days. Highly recommended.
  8. Greetings,To any current owner who has a pre - late 2017 D5000, I have a new output board and tubes that would improve sonics and lengthen tube life.I have one set and will ship. There is no fee. Allnic contacted me and I had sold the dac but the new owner never replied. I would like to see this board go to good use.John.
  9. This cable was from my personal system and used for 5 months. I purchased a TotalDac 12 which uses AES/EBU. This cable is amazing on all fronts. So much so I replaced my entire loom. The cable is like new. I am willing to offer a return guarantee. Give it 30 days and if you do not like it, I will refund your money on the cable return. Just cover shipping in both directions and any PayPal fees. By my experience, their power cords and speaker cable have even greater effect but this digital cable best what I had before, including Audience AU24se, Empirical Audio Reference silver BNC cable and Antipodes coax digital cable. I sold my entire Antipodes Loom for these cables. The TotalDac was expensive, so you may have seen a ton of stuff up for sale recently. This cable is just an afterthought. $1700 USD new. Price $950 Firm. Key Features Zero Loss Technology defined: Allnic Audio’s specialty technology for eliminating audio cable signal loss by minimizing three resistances: Linkage Resistance, Contact Resistance, and Wire Resistance. Linkage Resistance minimized: Allnic uses 1000 degree hot melt welding of cable terminations and wire; no solder, no clamps. Contact Resistance minimized: three innovative contact improvement methods, one each for our power cables, speaker cables, and interconnect cables. Furthermore, Allnic does proper heat treatment for longer contact pressure and uses Allnic’s patented double-bladed spade speaker terminations. Every termination for XLR, RCA, and banana is split into multi-faces with an inner elastomer core that constantly applies outward pressure to those faces. Wire Resistance optimized: After incessant technical test and listening sessions, we have found the optimum thickness of wire for each type of cable. Mu-metal shield: All other audio cable manufacturers use copper and/or silver shielding for signal cables. These are effective only for electrically induced noise, not for magnetically caused noise. Allnic uses Mu-metal as its braided shield for all Allnic’s interconnect, digital and phono cables. Mu-metal shielding provides complete protection from all electromagnetic noise, a world-premiere in the audio industry. MRCT®. Mid-Range Control Technology: Allnic considers that an exaggerated, protruding mid-range is the most formidable obstacle to harmonious signal transfer. Allnic’s MRCT uses metal platings for slight mid-range “braking” and heavier wire gauges for low frequency transmission, and controls capacitance to ensure usually evasive superbly realistic high frequency reproduction. http://6moons.com/audioreviews2/allnic3/1.html http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews2/allnic/1.htmlhttp://www.audiophilia.com/reviews/2...00-power-cablehttps://www.hifiplus.com/articles/al...l-3000-cables/ http://www.audioht.co.kr/atl/view.asp?a_id=5096 https://www.hificlub.co.kr/web10/bo...lid=100&f_lid=100886&table=brd_10023&ishtml=n https://www.hificlub.co.kr/web10/bo...lid=100&f_lid=100917&table=brd_10023&ishtml=nhttp://www.audioht.co.kr/atl/view.asp?a_id=6211http://allnicaudio.com/?page_id=955

  14. GreetingsI decided to sell this system which I purchased because I had limited time on my main system. One of my kids was suffering from chronic frequent migraines and to play music would be misery for him. This system seemed the perfect solution. I have had at most 5 hours on the Stax 009 BHSE. My life is just too busy to sit and listen. The unit is effectively new. This is the system Vincent used to voice TotalDac. BHSE faceplate is silver. Pictures posted this weekend. He now is living with his biological father full time as I no longer am partnered with his mom.I considered keeping this wonderful system but decided to sell off any not used gear. Price is $7500 for the Stax 009, BHSE. New: $6900 for Amp and $3500 for Stax 009.If you are interested in some relatively rare EL34 NOS match quads I never used, email me as well.
  15. This unit has under 200 hours on it. It does NOT run ROON. I have pressed for this but the manufacturer has valid reason not to implement it. Check out Empirical Audio threads on Audiocircle for best implementation in your system. I live close to Steve Nugent and everything is current, with all the recent innovative mods. The main board is in like new condition. The Ethernet board has been replaced with the new updated board. The reason for selling is not being used. The unit has sat for almost a year. I am simply to busy to enjoy it so I have decided to sell it. I imagine there will be a re-break in period. Email with Questions. $7900! Retails for $13,000. 16. My understanding of physics regarding electricity albeit decent has its limitations. I remain somewhat quiet on the topic because I choose not post information that may indeed be false. The cables have received decent reviews in the last year and are new this part of the world. I have tried them and was impressed enough to post here. Seems they have demo sets to try and stellar return policy if you purchase new and decide to return them. Some aspects regarding construction are novel and may be the reason they are set apart from ones I have used in the past: Pure Silver versions of Wireworld, Audioquest, in addition to Antipodes Reference which one of the reviewers had the same cable currently and same assessment. High Fidelity Ultimate Reference, Audience AU24sx, Nordost to name a few. Factor in alternating current noise, RF radiation, equipment, system design, room implementation and aural interpretation -- results vary. Some reviews here I found beneficial and others poor investments. There are too many variables at play. These cables are offered at no risk trial and I recommend them.
  17. I do not want to give my best guess answer so I will ask directly. Until then.... From the Hammertone Website: Mu-metal shielding for true protection from EMI While all other audio cable manufacturers use copper and/or silver shields for signal cables, Allnic uses ‘Mu-metal’ as braided shield for its interconnect and digital cables (RCA & XLR) – a world-premiere in the audio industry. Traditional copper and/or silver mesh shields provide effective protection against electrically generated noise, but they are ineffective against magnetically induced noise. This is because magnetically generated interference freely penetrates both copper and silver. Only Mu-metal (a nickel alloy material) can protect the audio signal from both electronically and magnetically induced noise. Test data show that Mu-metal shielding reduces electromagnetic noise to less than 1/30th of what braided copper shield allows, down -30dB in comparison.
  18. KS Park who is the lead designer and owner of Allnic Audio developed a cable company, ZL Technologies.I personally have had a very long journey in the cable world with some good investments and some horrible ones. These cables are worth your attention. While this review at Audiophilia stated great benefit with one cable. This becomes vastly understated when you replace all the cables in your system. The two main characteristics that make this cable design different is welding in place of soldiering and Mu Metal shielding. I attached a list of current and recent reviews about this new cable out of Korea.Unlike many cables, additional lengths are of nominal costs. 33' unbalanced cable was custom made and fortunately not sold on a per meter basis, unlike Antipodes Reference. TI strongly recommend auditioning them. The power cables are fantastic. I will trial some speaker cables in the coming months. However the best benefit for the $$ is the Coax digital cable and power cords. After much dialog with David Beetles and Kang Su, my conclusion is that ZL5000 vs ZL 3000 cables are identical except for the gauge of the wire. The rule is for low current demand use the smaller gauge ZL3000. However, this rule in my estimation has been debunked. High current linear power supplies for source components is essential to reduce jitter and meet the demands for optimal signal presentation. I challenged both of them to a comparison and another person who also has replaced his cabling across all his systems with ZL. They had an eye opening moment. The consumer who I modeled my system from in 2012 sold off all his ZL3000 for the 5000 series. The cable is much stiffer but manageable. My wife is more OCD than I am. She re-laid my cables maintaining my one rule that signal cables are above power cords. While stiff, it is doable. Background: I have horrible electrical power in part due to the tech neighborhood I live in (Nike and Intel Exec) and the switch power supplies in my house played havoc on my system. I installed a Torus 75a isolation transformer and ran dedicated lines. Tore the darn house apart in the process. The wife was pissed. I have dedicated lines to each Amp, Pre, and source components feed off a Audience Adept Response TSSD 12. I replaced my au24sx power cable with the ZL5000 to a Neutrik adapter. The improvement was not subtle, particularly in the detail of music presentation. I had more spatial clarity and hear level of detail in my music that was not there before. ZL cables are welded. Once they can do this process to a Neutrik I will replace the cable without an adaptor. These cables across the product line have done a tremendous job at removing RF pollution which I still struggles with despite the isolation transformer. LED lighting and Dimer switches. Between my rack and amps, in the corner is a gas stove. The fan when clicking on and off would create a pop in my speakers. This issue is more so prevalent with the 99 dB efficient Daedalus speakers. The pop was loud. Even tried at the advice of Steve Nugent at Empirical, place a capacitor between the hot and neutral of the motor ac plug to no effect. These cables silenced this. From another customer that posted on Audioshark: "Not only did the system get quieter with the power cable but the bass is more taut and textured. Sense of space is better. I'm also hearing micro details that I've never heard before on well known albums, even when previously played with higher priced components in former systems. Overall, one of the better upgrades I have done $ for $. "For those interested contact: Albert Porter of Porterhouse audio, Corby Audio, or David Beetles of Hammertone Audio. 19. http://www.audiophilia.com/reviews/2...00-power-cablehttp://hammertoneaudio.com/zl-technology I have not posted here for some time. However, I came cross a new cable design that may be of interest to the digital community, which is my main focus. Only if I place my ear to the speaker I can hear a faint pop. It is effectively gone a 1' from the speaker, vs being significantly annoying. From another customer that posted on Audioshark: "Not only did the system get quieter with the power cable but the bass is more taut and textured. Sense of space is better.
