  1. Just shooting this out there but could the aberration be related to trying to play surround sound tracks? You say it happens in some movies only? On the one's that don't do it ... is it just 2.0 audio?

  6. Thanks Paul. My concern with the Rega has always been its usb limitation. I know that I can buy a USB-to-spdif/coax converter but that idea is not that appealing to me and of course adds extra cost. I was also considering the Simaudio 100D because of its now low cost but the same USB limitation applies. I will have to look into the Peachtree DAC IT.
  7. Hello everyone. I am considering upgrading my digital audio world. I am currently using a HRT Music Streamer II and a Schiit Modi. I have previously used W4S Dac 1 and Schiit Bifrost. My transport will be a Pogoplug E02 running archlinux and using squeezelite as the player (SBT clone). I have two amps (depending on the system) that I use. A Primaluna Prologue 2 and a Creek 5350se. The Primaluna is paired with Dynaudio Excite X12's while the Creek is hooked up to a pair of ADS L880's. With the recent price reduction in the dac's listed in my title I am thinking about making the plunge in a
  8. I have the dynaudio excite X12's which retail for 1200 and are simply amazing imho. I would whol heartedly recommend them. If you are into professional reviews this is a glowing one: Dynaudio Excite X12 loudspeaker | Stereophile.com
  9. I have the raspberry pi and one warning I would mention is that with certain dacs the usb bus on the pi is not fast enough (or powered enough?) to play hi-rez material. My personal example is that with my wyred 4 sound DAC-1, trying to play 24/96 files through mpd on the pi creates hiccups/skips in the music. This is not a processor issue as nothing is being re/upsampled by the pi .. but rather its some kind of data thoroughput ... or bus type power issue. I don't really know the why ... but only that it happens. Moreover, I do believe that this is dac dependent because I can play 24/96 on bot
  10. my suggestion is to use MPD and a front end like ario. in the /etc/mpd.conf ... configuration file change the output section to something like this: audio_output { type "alsa" name "HR Music StreamerII" device "hw:1,0" } This tells MPD to play the files on your second soundcard ... I'm guessing you have an internal one and the hrt is showing up as the second. If that doesn't produce output then try "hw:0,0" or "hw:2,0" also, to test from the command line for a specific wav file t
  11. thanks for your comments. I have to say that I also have really been tempted to get a Rega RP1 TT as I'm using a vintage technics that I like but could definitely be improved upon. The phono stage on the brio-r is truly excellent and makes this amp an even better value. If I may ask, what stands do you have the RS1's on and what height? Thanks again -Bob
  12. I just wanted to add that I recently got the rega brio-r and it is really wonderful. Upgrading speakers is out of my budget right now but I would be interested to hear opinions about the RS1 and whether or not a sub is needed / recommended.
  13. I have seen a couple posts from folks interested in linux. I would recommend this online book written by one the Gentoo developers. It may get a little thick in spots but should be at least a good foundation for those interested in nix. http://swift.siphos.be/linux_sea/
  14. I should also note this is pertinent portion of the response I got from Kevin Halverson at HRT As for your question, if you change sample rate without flushing the buffer first, a discontinuity would be of no surprise. Flushing the buffer (effectively sending a series of null value samples for a single frame (1/1000th of a second) is considered good behavior for any host. I am not a Linux user so while I have a general understanding of most of the software, I don't have the experience to point you to any setup options that would enable this behavior.
