  1. Mytek was very gracious and offered me a similar DAC as a replacement with no charges. Further to their credit, it turns out there was nothing wrong with my DAC which they tested extensively and found nothing wrong with. The new DAC didn't solve my problem, pointing to a problem somewhere else in my signal chain which I found and fixed. It was an unstable rotary dial on my vintage MacIntosh preamp, which created crawling and dropped signal similar to a faulty digital connection, thence my never suspecting it could be an analog issue away from the DAC. So I apologize to Mytek for all the trouble created as their hardware is absolutely not at fault, and I thank them and Michal for graciously offering a new replacement unit even though he proved my unit to be functioning on his bench testing. Thank you Mytek!!!
  2. Michal & Mytek; I will contact you directly. CA Administrator, can you please delete this thread as it serves no purpose to discredit Mytek, which was never the goal.
  3. Michal, Sorry to have to do this again but I emailed you at the address you suggested above on Feb 25th. I have not heard anything back. I have a series of recording sessions in my studio coming up early April and at this point, I worry that I will not have a proper monitoring system. I am happy to drive to Brooklyn and drop of the unit or whatever else, but we need to engage please. Regards
  4. Mytek responded professionally which we must respect. My goal was not to discredit the brand, and CERTAINLY not to allow ill-intended people to use this as a marketing platform to promote their own products. I'm lucky that my sound room had a backup system so I'm not crippled. I am taking this up with the US support team. And to me, the DSD 192 DAC is a fabulous product, so I would look to upgrade with the next Mytek product, Brooklyn, if I had a budget for it. So no bad feelings at this point.
  5. I have the DSD192 stereo DAC from 3-4 yeas ago and it has started to dysfunction recently. Problem is dropped signal, like the digital connection is lost or poor, with cracklings sound, up to loss of one or both channels. I have 100% eliminated the audio sources as a problem, and in addition, the problem is intermittent. I have been emailing with Mytek tech support, but it takes them literally 10 days to respond to each of my answers to their questions. So we have been going back and forth for two months now exchanging trivial information like"did I upgrade to the most recent firmware" and so on. Finally after not hearing for 16 days, I asked if they ever intended to do something to which they asked me to ship my unit to ... Poland. I find this to be pretty weak after all the time wasted. Frankly, they should have an office in the US that handles at least the international shipping. Anyways, I'm wondering if others have had similar experience because when I am ready to upgrade to a higher level DAC I would tend to stay away from Mytek based on what has been a bad customer support experience.
  6. I saw Dream Theater twice last week, in Wallingford CT in a small venue of less than 1,500 seats then at Radio City Music Hall. They played the entire new The Astonishing album. Not for most on this forum, but if you like Pink Floyd, Yes, Rush and Metallica, and could imagine all these beautifully combined, and if you admire the most musically talented rock/prog musicians of this generation, then this is for you. The album in 24/96 is simply stunning.... Errrr astonishing.
  7. Well, the hard core Dream Theater fan base is really into shredding and metal, fast double kick drum and heavy riffing and so on. So on the DT forums, many are indeed trashing the album because it is much softer, although many are also loving the album. This really works for me because I like the softer side of DT way more, and I really hate machine-gun type double kick, although I don't mind heavy riffing.
  8. I realize most on this forum are not into so-called "prog metal" which DT epitomizes. I became a DT fan mostly because of their more spacey, Floyd-ish music, which usually is found in sections of their epic albums. The metal and fast sections are not for everyone, which brings me to this new album. It is a powerful and ambitious double album with more than 2 hours of sublime music which is much more based on piano, vocals and of course the grand master John Petrucci on guitar. The album is actually a bona-fide rock opera with characters and a story behind it. I would say more than 2/3 of the album are beautiful ballads and can be thought of as a modern version of what The Wall could have sounded like if done in 2016. I have listened to both the CD format and the 24/96 HDTracks download, and without doing any measurements, the 24/96 sounds even better than the CD, more space, more 3D. As I said, probably not for too many people of this forum, although the album includes a full fledged classical orchestra for certain sections, so classical music meets Pink Floyd meets Metallica in a very tasty combination.
  9. I am biased as a huge Floyd fan and Gilmour fanatic, but this album is quite stunning. Much more Floydish than the (too) mellow On An Island. I just read that the album reached number one in the UK charts. Very strong guitar work, stunning recording quality. In particular the song In Any Tongue has AMAZING bass, really low deep bass like sub 30Hz but blends well in the mix which is usually not easy. While I also miss Rick Wright, I still prefer this one to Endless River as it feels much more finished and the vocals really add a lot, and it's Dave's voice after all. Lead guitar is very focused and clean but good sustain, reminiscent of Shine On. Very high quality album and obviously a pleasant surprise.
  10. This is one of my very very best (top 3 out of library of 500 or so DSD and 24/96-192 digital albums) sounding albums post ripping to computer. And the music is also very very good.
  11. In 1.x versions, I used to create proxy files, but that no longer exists. Does it mean that it is no longer possible? If not, how to do it please?
  12. So I watched Roger's interview, and then bought the 24/192 version and cranked it to 114dB at 1 meter. It sounds very very good! Just wish the drummer would be less shy about hitting the ride cymbal like Nick Mason. But seriously, this is an amazing sounding remaster/remix. Roger is right in the interview.
  13. Dos the Vivaldi convert DSD 128 to PCM 24/176? I used one with Audirvana+ at a friend's place, and found that DSD 64 shows as DSD on the Vivaldi display, but DSD 128 shows as 176, they don't seem to have a display for DSD128, or as you mention they convert it. The latter would be a negative, despite the superb quality of this model. Unless I missed something. Curious...
  14. HD is either DSD or PCM 24/96-192, or even 24/88-176 (ugh). I use proxy files because whenever I buy HD music online or I rip a SACD/BR, I also need a low def file in the iTunes library so that my outdoor wireless Sonos system, which only plays standard def and auto-syncs to iTunes library, can play the music. So by creating proxy files, I was killing two birds with one stone. But also, I had segregated all my HD music on one HD that is different than my std def iTunes drive for historical reasons. Is A+ going to totally ditch iTunes proxy integration? Would using the new A+ library manager require to reload all my painstakingly tagged music again in A+? I hope A+ 2.0 at least stays downward compatible with iTunes proxy, but at some point, it's clear he won't be able to keep maintaining it. He's a slick guy, so let's hope he offers a conversion of all proxy files into A+ new library manager automatically. Please!!!
  15. I'm getting a new computer and was thinking about rationalizing the directory structure of my HD files. Currently, I have probably 400 HD albums that were all imported in A+ in iTunes Compatibility mode, as I love iTunes as a library interface. Problem is that all my iTunes proxy files are lookings for the HD files in the path were they located when I created the proxies in A+. If I change the directory structure of my HD files, will all my proxy files stop working or is there a way to reassign the root path via A+ somehow? I suppose I can't be done, but asking just in case.
