scobek
Very sophisticated, but Milt Jackson (vibes) makes them swing like bastards. Supernatural exchanges between Jackson and leader John Lewis (piano), with Percy Heath (bass) and Connie Kay (drums) comprising the greatest rhythm section ever, apart from Elvin Jones and every bass player he ever worked with. Try their "Blues on Bach" if you want to pursue further the Jazz Sebastian Bach theme. "Fontessa", "Pyramid", "Lonely Woman" and "No Sun in Venice" are absolute classics (all Warners/Atlantic). Worth hunting down is "Odds Against Tomorrow" (EMI/Blue Note) but, alas!, long deleted. "Space" and "Under the Jasmine Tree" (EMI/Apple, of all labels) are also fun. There are heaps of live concerts too. Warners need to box up absolutely everything they ever recorded.
