Old Listener
> there are talks about getting a button to click on J River > to make it easy to bypass all DSP, Volume, clip protection, > 64bit internal float for music files. It is quite straightforward to turn off DSP, Volume and clip protection in JRiver MC right now. According to Matt who writes the audio code in MC, conversion from 16 bit or 24 bit integer samples to 64 bit float and back to integer preserve the original bits if no DSP is done. That is certainly possible given the way integer float conversions work. The amount of CPU used to convert back and forth is trivial. If I were writing a minimal player program, I would leave the data in integer format. However, in a program with all the features JRiver MC offers, a integer pass through mode just adds to the complexity of the program. If a request for modification is accepted, it takes resources for design, coding and testing. Those resources won't be available for other changes. Before you urge JRiver to make mods, think about whether you really know that the changes will make a difference and that the difference will matter to you. Bill Link to comment
blaine78
I think the direct button will make it easier to disable these processes for some users, also bypassing 64bit float processing with a button, is a really nice feature for those who like it direct, whether or not some will/wont hear it. the beauty of it, is you can turn it on or off. it's a really nice addition to have on J River. Long time J River user here.
