coot
I seem to remember some past user comments to the effect that music transferred over a network wirelessly is slightly degraded in the process compared to wired connections. I, like many here, am considering adding a NAS for music files and using my laptop in another room to access iTunes, but I listen critically--this is not merely for background music. The Computer Audiophile
Hi coot - You have nothing to worry about using a NAS device. Network disk has no sonic impact at all. I'm not a fan of any of the current wireless transports, but that is not to say wireless is the key factor. I think the devices themselves are far from high-end (Airport Express, Squeezebox, etc...) So, bottom line is get a NAS you'll love it. I use the Thecus 5200B Pro. Founder of Audiophile Style | My Audio Systems Link to comment
coot
the MBP will be accessing the NAS via Airport Extreme. Won't the AE be the limiting factor? Link to comment
coot
Oh--never mind, I found the answer on another post. Obviously as long as its data that's going over wireless, there's no sq loss. Link to comment
The Computer Audiophile
Hi coot - Wireless or wired, when you pull data from a NAS drive it has no sonic impact unless your network is bad and you suffer dropouts. I've routed my NAS drive through an Airport Express via wireless to a music server and had no issues. Founder of Audiophile Style | My Audio Systems Link to comment
