jiminlogansquare
Not sure I ever before heard a chamber reduction of Till Eulenspiegel, and not sure this rendition fully satisfies, but it is an audacious and entertaining effort filled with virtuoso performances. The Françaix pieces are totally on point, no questions here, and I love Francaix. Poulenc is Poulenc. A very good album. coot 1 Link to comment

I'm sorry I have no musical training, so cannot get into technicalities, but I did feel the CSO's playing was more heartfelt, and — dare I say it — more virtuosic. And I mean no disrespect — I am a huge fan of the BP. Finally, the SQ of the CSO version, despite being from 1984, is just stunningly good, and better than the BP version. Of course, this is just my personal opinion, and YMMV! Additionally I would suggest to try 7th with Zender, Gielen, Kondrashin. And Neumann, for whom I have a soft spot, I guess it was his versions of several Mahler symphonies which I heard first back in 80s, including 7th. BTW, did you listen to 7th with MTT and London SO? austinpop 1 Link to comment
