Popular Post AnotherSpin
Legendary Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto recording made in May 1941. An entertaining illustration of the difficulties in family relations: Horowitz has not shown proper respect for his glorious father-in-law. He walks by himself, accelerates freely, not caring at all whether the orchestra can keep up with him. Despite, or perhaps because of this apparent conflict, the result is a recording of sheer excitement and stunning power that is unlikely to be matched. Two editions of the same recording to compare. The Naxos version sounds a little more natural than the RCA remaster. Musicophile, semente and flkin 3 Link to comment

The Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin is fast becoming one of my favorite ensembles. Haven't heard this one, but love the piece. Dare I say, every time I hear this I think of the scene in "Amadeus" where Hulce is hiding under the table, and after some scatalogical vulgarities and an affectionate "U-EVOL-I-TUB" to Constanze, his music begins to play without him!
