Popular Post jiminlogansquare
I had not heard of the composer before, but the liner notes tell an interesting story and build a strong case for Strinck as the savior of the pipe organ in the 19th Century, helping transition it from the Baroque role of providing (mostly) liturgical music to a concert instrument that fit the changing zeitgeist of the Romantic age. Whether you buy that or not, this is great organ music, played well by a group of organ students taking turns at the keyboard and the manual air pumps(!) of a restored instrument the composer actually tested and approved of around 1840. Popular Post AnotherSpin
In just a decade of existence, ECM Records, a small independent German company, has become a leading force in the world of improvised music. A listening marathon of early ECM albums concludes with the powerful recording of Art Ensemble of Chicago, which won Album of the Year award from DownBeat critics poll, and two brilliant ECM debuts from composer and trumpeter Leo Smith and composer and vocalist Meredith Monk. ssh, graham and jiminlogansquare 2 1 Link to comment

Popular Post sphinxsix
Earlier during the day. Great, underrated bluesman, fantastic box (16-44). Right now playing for the first time - the best of WTC II (according to Piotr Anderszewski) (mp3 stream): WAM, jiminlogansquare and Musicophile 1 2 Link to comment

The initial impressions: highly 'individualistic' performance, often slower and more lyrical than most (it's not 'percussive' piano Bach), very well played and nicely, warmly recorded. Interesting! I may be tempted to add one more (not complete in this case) version of WTC to my collection! I highly recommend checking it out, guys (in particular if you think you've heard too many too similar sounding versions )! Musicophile 1 Link to comment
Popular Post orresearch
One of my all-time favorites. First appeared as two separate albums, and later a release to include both the quintet and the quartet on a single CD. Guidof, Musicophile, AnotherSpin and 1 other 2 2 Link to comment
jiminlogansquare
New on Qobuz, and new to me (not just the "world premiere" pieces). I love this sort of discovery that streaming services like Qobuz make not just possible, but *usual* ... and affordable. Much as I used to love browsing Tower Records...I couldn't buy every whim. AudioDoctor
As a fan of Imelda May, I don't know why I didn't purchase this album sooner, but that's now rectified and it sounds great in 24/96 from Qobuz. It's very different than her earlier albums, a lot mellower and introspective, less Rockabilly. She has a new album coming out in April as well. The Computer Audiophile 1 No electron left behind. Searching for this one, I was surprised to know a certain shoe collector also has music available on Qobuz. AudioDoctor 1 Founder of Audiophile Style | My Audio Systems Link to comment
