This excellent recording by new-to-me performers of a wide array of Telemann chamber, solo and vocal works was recommended by Roon after listening to the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra recording above. I enjoyed this so much I felt the need to double up posts for Album of the Evening.

The 24/192 remaster can’t really fix the somewhat boxy DG sound, but the playing is pure brilliance, as always with Martha.

Here's one that seems right for Labor Day. inspired by Woodiy Guthrie but not actually including any of his songs (other than the occasional use of the theme from "This Land Is Your Land"). As the notes on Roon propose, it consists of new songs Guthrie might have enjoyed hearing. Also shares some of Guthrie's politics and populist spirit, if that matters to you. Makes you wonder whether Bob Dylan has heard it yet. Anyway, it's probably unlike anything else you will listen to today, very entertaining, and well worth a go streaming on Qobuz. Annika Socolofsky sings brilliantly, too; she is a real highlight. A good Album of the Evening, maybe not so much an album for a desert island.

New album by the great Terje Rypdal. In the spirit of his early albums made back in the 70s. Those who remember or curious enough to recognize that special, unique atmosphere of the indigenous ECM output should be very happy.
