Popular Post Musicophile
Another legendary Chopin Classic that I upgraded from redbook to the DG 24/96 (together with Argerich’s recording of no. 1) during the current Qobuz summer sale. €8.99 wasn’t particularly cheap for an album on sale but It’s worth having the best possible version of this classic. And it does sound quite decent for a 1980 DG recording with a DR of 13-16. I keep going back and forth whether I prefer the older Giulini version or the “newer” Polish festival recording of Zimerman, but in the end why choose? Just get both (plus Argerich). rando, sphinxsix, coot and 1 other 3 1 Check out my blog at musicophilesblog.com - From Keith Jarrett to Johannes Brahms Link to comment

AudioDoctor
Just finished listening to this. I learned about Lavay a very long time ago in a Borders books when I just happened to listen to her CD. Bought it immediately and since then have not only seen her play many times but have come to know her in person and become friends. She is a wonderful person and great talent. Popular Post Musicophile
Another recent Qobuz sale purchase: Redbook download of year 2000 digital recording. I clearly didn’t need yet another Goldberg recording to add to my long list but I have a great respect for Céline Frisch and at €4 this was a no brainer. On top of the regular Goldberg recording you get on a “2nd CD” Café Zimmermann playing some inprovisations on the Goldbergs. Not 100% my cup of tea but interesting nevertheless. I also discovered this album in a Borders store when it came out, at one of their listening stations! Great album, as is her second one, Everybody's Talkin' 'bout Miss Thing! Looking online now, I see that somehow I missed a third album, released in 2009. I'll have to check it out. I'm glad to hear nice things about her as a person, I love it when artists whose work I admire are actually admirable as people as well as talents! I agree that it is nice to learn a favorite artist is also a nice person, it lets me appreciate them more rather than ruining their music for me. Ms Smith To You is the 3rd album and it is just as good! I have not been able to find a download in anything higher than mp3 though, so if you do let me know. You'll just have to buy the CD.
