"Using this new method we come upon a concept of reproduction In which the signal gets better with every stage of the process it goes through, whereas in a conventional system, each stage causes it to get [however slightly] worse. rando
@Musicophile This brings back to mind someone being in awe of Karajan's artfully layered salt and pepper hairstyle they were going to emulate. Food for thought here, doing a subtle dark fade on a landscape white as the driven snow. Going to be awful hard formulating an excuse in the face of your new evidence. Musicophile 1 Link to comment

A new (?) highes remaster of Karajan‘s legendary Bruckner recordings with the BPO. Regarding the physical boxed set this corresponds with~ The new boxed set consists of 9 CDs and a single Blu-ray. The CDs are from the same mastering as the previous release, while the Blu-ray has upsampled versions of Symphonies 1, 2, and 3 (they were recorded digitally, in 16/44.1), and the original analogue recordings of Symphonies 4-9 were remastered for the Blu-ray. This is the last set Karajan recorded with the Berlin Philharmonic, from 1975 to 1981 or thereabouts. They are doing the same thing with the Tchaikosky Symphonies 1-6 set (Berlin, 1970s on DG), the CDs themselves are from an older remastering, while the included Blu-ray disc is from a new remastering. That is supposed to be available in July (dates seem to vary by country). The Bruckner and Tchaikovsky sets are being issued this year to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Karajan's death. For any owners of the older sets who wonder whether it's worth re-buying: the convenience of a single Blu-ray for so many symphonies is lovely, but if someone already has these on CD and has no interest in Blu-ray audio, there would be no reason to purchase the new boxed sets as the CDs are older remasterings and have the same breaks between movements as the old CDs, just with new graphics and a new box. I for one hate disc breaks in the middle of a symphony, so the Blu-ray is great just to avoid that haha! The Bruckner CDs have spits between discs for Symphonies 5 and 8, while the Tchaikovsky set splits Symphony No. 5 across two of the CDs. So, worth buying for the Blu-ray Audio discs for the new remasterings and to avoid breaks across discs, or if you don't already own these sets by Karajan. Hope this helps anyone curious about these releases! crenca and Musicophile 1 1 请教别人一次是5分钟的傻子,从不请教别人是一辈子的傻子 Link to comment

Hugo9000
Richard Strauss Symphonia Domestica, Also sprach Zarathustra, etc. (see below) Neeme Järvi/Scottish National Orchestra I really love Neeme Järvi's Strauss recording series on Chandos! I think he and Karajan are my favorites for the music of Richard Strauss. I tend to listen more to Järvi as time goes on, but it might be more that Chandos' sound is more to my taste than the engineering by DG. 请教别人一次是5分钟的傻子,从不请教别人是一辈子的傻子 Link to comment
