Popular Post Musicophile
I was a bit surprised to see this old Cassandra Wilson album pop up under nouveautés @ Qobuz, but then I realized it‘s a high res remaster. Given that this is one of my favorite Wilson albums, and very well recorded, at €10.99 for the 24/96 it didn’t take long to get my credit card out. I haven’t compared to my CD rip yet, and will do a Musiscope check later, but it sounds very nice. According to JRiver Audio Analysis, compared to the CD the 24/96 appears to be a different mastering and has much wider dynamics. To me it sounds significantly better. Here's the JRMC audio analysis comparative data CD: Fragile (11 dB); Sleight of Time (10 dB); I Want More (9 dB); If Loving You Is Wrong (10 dB); Lay Lady Lay (9 dB); Crazy (12 dB); What Is It (10 dB); Heaven Knows (11 dB); Honey Bee (10 dB); Broken Drum (11 dB); On This Train (11 dB); Throw It Away (12db) 24/96: Fragile (14 dB); Sleight of Time (14 dB); I Want More (13 dB); If Loving You Is Wrong (15 dB); Lay Lady Lay (15 dB); Crazy (14 dB); What Is It (15 dB); Heaven Knows (13 dB); Honey Bee (14 dB); Broken Drum (14 dB); On This Train (15 dB); Throw It Away (13 dB) The 24/96 also has two bonus tracks: Allow Me (14 dB) and Once In A Blue Moon (13 dB). For me, one of the times when Hi-Res is worth it, because I think it's audibly better (but only because of better mastering). mkrzych and Jud 2 Link to comment

Turns out it is a completely remaster from the original analog tapes: https://www.udiscovermusic.com/stories/cassandra-wilson-glamoured-album/ Jud 1 Check out my blog at musicophilesblog.com - From Keith Jarrett to Johannes Brahms Link to comment

When it turned out, it is a new (great) remaster, I immediately uploaded the DR-logfile to the dynamic range database: http://dr.loudness-war.info/album/view/162578 On top of excellent dynamic, SQ is very good. Popular Post Paul R
I usually don't like much rap or rap inspired music, but un- in the vernacular - This lady (Tarriona "Tank" Ball) has got some serious ratchet in her! I got so into the album, I forgot to listen critically. sphinxsix, ronfint and rando 1 2 Anyone who considers protocol unimportant has never dealt with a cat DAC. Robert A. Heinlein Link to comment

Hugo9000
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 5 Christian Lindberg/Arctic Philharmonic First time listening to this symphony in over 30 years haha! I always judge my Tchaikovsky symphony cycle recordings by the 4th and 6th, so this has been sitting unheard since I purchased this 2-SACD set a while back. Odd how my brain anticipates each phrase before it comes, after so many years away from this music. Actually, I just remembered that the last time I listened to this symphony was in autumn of 1987, as a freshman in college, the first time I heard KEF loudspeakers. It was the only recording the dealer had of music I was familiar with. After that, I always brought my own CDs when auditioning equipment! Fittingly, I am listening on my KEF LS50s today haha! The first speakers were the KEF Reference 102. The next day, I went back with a Leontyne Price CD to play on the Reference 107--what an incredible experience that was! 请教别人一次是5分钟的傻子,从不请教别人是一辈子的傻子 Link to comment
