A beautiful new release (and very audiophile at that) from ECM. 24/96 from Qobuz.

Here's my review: https://musicophilesblog.com/2020/05/31/accordion-and-guitar-seriously-absolutely-rivages-a-beautiful-new-ecm-release-by-jean-louis-martinier-and-kevin-seddiki/

That was new to me. Adding it to my collection now. I already have a few RB albums which I enjoy a lot.

I don't think the man made a bad album. Live at The Loa and Soular Energy are particular favorites.

Another great performance - and decent quality recording - from Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. The lyrics and the monologues are a bit ham-fisted (the music is certainly the more sophisticated part of this show), but still it tells a difficult message that bears repeating, and wraps it up in an appealing musical/dramatic package.90DC9216-6B52-4EF7-8BA5-617CF3FC9D2C.thumb.jpeg.43202812a40daf3b116da49094d11bee.jpeg

Thanks for mentioning.

I have to say that the cover art freaks me out though...

What do you think if this release? The recording is exceptional but she is really pitchy.

It didn't really bother me but I'm sure it will next time I listen to it... 😭

What do audiophile labels and undressed singers have in common?

Bad music.

Just saying... 😇

I don't think anyone would consider Universal Music Group to be an audiophile label... 👺

I have to say, some of the songs on this album are some of his best work in a long time and recorded as well or almost as well as (the song) The Ghost of Tom Joad while other selections leave me in wondering, WTF. However, overall, even accounting for the tracks I find a little too much for my likes, really good.

I like this album but not quite as much as Western Stars, especially the film version.

The Houston Person Ron Carter recordings are fantastic. Both living legends. A friend has recorded a couple albums with Houston as the bassist and says how amazing he is to work with. The Hightone recordings usually sound great too.

He should try Ron Carter next time. I've heard he's even better on that instrument than Houston. 🤣

It is rather lamentable that arranging large orchestral works for a small chamber ensemble to perform at home is no longer en vogue. Mozart's famous pieces arranged by Johann Nepomuk Hummel.

Absolutely wonderful!

Do you have any other recordings like this that you recommend?

Fumiko Shiraga has recorded several fine albums with chamber arrangements of works by Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin.

Johann Nepomuk Hummel made quite a few arrangements in his time, he was commissioned for this purpose by publishing houses. Before the advent of gramophone recording, this was very practical - large scale works became suitable for home performance and listening.

Listening to the Chopin right now. It's such a shame that she died so young (49).

Thanks again for mentioning her.
