sphinxsix
The quartet, electronics and Laurie's voice blend seamlessly. A fantastic album IMO! 24-44 from Qobuz: https://www.qobuz.com/fr-fr/album/landfall-laurie-anderson-kronos-quartet/0075597933864 crenca 1 Link to comment
sphinxsix
I don't listen to free jazz that often but it's really hard not to appreciate this pianoless quartet featuring two saxophone giants - highly recommended for the fans of the genre! (24-192) Nikhil 1 Link to comment

Popular Post sphinxsix
After the evening in a nearby pub (they play some quite good classic rock there, listening to it while playing pool is quite ok, especially if you win ) time for a little more demanding material. Which I actually enjoy exceptionally tonight. Probably patly due to the weather which has been very 'undutch' for the last couple of days - lots of sunshine and 26-28 °C(!). Wishing everybody a fantastic Sunday! Musicophile and Melvin 1 1 Link to comment

Popular Post sphinxsix
Talking Heads at IMO their best and most original. What would you call this music - a psychodelic funky new wave music based on African polyrhythms..? christopher3393 and graham 2 Link to comment

Good to see you here Chris, I think I wasn't the only one to think you've become a REAL audiophile and you don't listen to the MUSIC anymore BTW I believe that you are aware that the walls of your listening room still aren't straight.. 13 hours ago, WAM said: Not a very original one, this evening. I also regret that the late editions didn't include fusion albums. I have 2 paperback and 2 pdf editions, and can only recommend it to anybody who's building a serious jazz library. I also bought 'Penguin Guide to Classical' a year or so ago but I still don't feel I'm an expert on that topic so I won't judge its quality. Link to comment

Will check him out cause it's one of the funkiest double bass playing I've heard in a long time (and a real high energy solo at 3:00). I bet he's not half that good on his studio albums Link to comment

sphinxsix
I rarely WATCH classical music. Hope this can be called 'album of the evening' The sound is decent on my headphones. Very nice TV realisation. I've probably heard better versions of the 6th, enjoying this video a lot anyway. Link to comment

sphinxsix
4 hours ago, AnotherSpin said: Some parts are really good, imho. I agree. Wiki: ' Both Directions at Once: The Lost Album is a studio album recorded by saxophonist John Coltrane for Impulse! Records that was first released in 2018.[1] The recordings were made in 1963 during Coltrane's Classic Quartet period and were lost for decades. On March 6, 1963, Coltrane and his Classic Quartet—including double bassist Jimmy Garrison, drummer Elvin Jones, and pianist McCoy Tyner—entered Van Gelder Studio in New Jersey and recorded a session that was lost for decades after its master tape was destroyed by Impulse Records to cut down on storage space. The seven tracks making up this album survived as a copy Coltrane gave to his wife.[2][3] The standard issue of the album includes one recording of each track and expanded deluxe editions include multiple takes, including several of the title track from Impressions. The source tape was formerly in the possession of Coltrane's first wife Juanita Naima.[1] Van Gelder made a separate copy of Coltrane's sessions for the saxophonist to listen at home. After the Guernsey's auction house announced plans to sell Coltrane related artefacts in 2005, the record company intervened to prevent the sale of the tapes and acquired them.[4] Coltrane's son Ravi and studio executive Ken Druker assembled the final album with liner notes written by Sonny Rollins.[1]' Rollins was quite emotional saying of the album: 'It’s like finding a new room in the Great Pyramid'.
