Popular Post accwai
Monteverdi: L'incoronazione di Poppea Concerto Vocale, René Jacobs, et al. Listed as representative of early Baroque operas in RCM History 2 syllabus: Quote Recitatives, arias, choruses and passages in arioso style (musically between aria and recitative styles) In fact, some of the songs sound positively like madrigals. Very sinister plot until it inexplicably resolves into the glorious coronation scene and the beautiful love duet Pur ti mio at the very end. Moral value of the whole thing is highly questionable... christopher3393 and Musicophile 1 1 Link to comment
WAM
I am a WTk-addict. And Rosalyn Tureck's version is becoming a favorite. It does not surpass Richter (my ears, my taste, ymmv), but I am getting curious about her DG studio recordings (an opinion, anyone?). Musicophile 1 Link to comment

sphinxsix
I don't listen to free jazz that often but it's really hard not to appreciate this pianoless quartet featuring two saxophone giants - highly recommended for the fans of the genre! (24-192) Nikhil 1 Link to comment

The Organ Sumphony is not a piece I know well, but the Carnival of the Animals is, of course. Enjoyable performance. I have an MQA DAC on loan in my system. I was playing this album MQA-decoded off Tidal, and the SQ is excellent. Given the relative paucity of classical music on Tidal Masters, this was a nice find. rando
Gets basically the same reviews as the MO Beethoven/Mahler cycle. Great choral work but a very, ahem, refined and terse variant of the bombastic showmanship competing recordings explore austinpop 1 Link to comment

austinpop
This Solti Mahler 8th from 1971 is the one I always return to, and has pride of place in my (Roon) library. Get the 24/96 on Blu-Ray - it makes the most of the 1971 recording. Yes, there are sonically better recordings of Mahler 8th than this - the MTT/San Francisco comes to mind, but there is just something special about this performance that stirs the soul like no other. rando 1 My Audio Setup Link to comment
