accwai
Yim Wan at Fazioli Concert Hall Chinese pianist Yim Wan performs familiar piano pieces by Bach, Scarlatti, Gluck/Sgambati, Mozart, Schubert, Chopin, Schumann and Debussy at the Fazioli factory concert hall. She has been on the music faculty of Chinese University of Hong Kong for quite a while. Spectacular SQ from the AQCD copy. A little hard to get in the west though unless you know your way around local Chinatown. Or it can be ordered from yesasia.com. Link to comment
Popular Post accwai
Time Out The Dave Brubeck Quartet SBM gold CD. Have never been one to be keen on test albums, but this one turns out to be quite a good test for PRaT. PRaT is usually thought of as system's ability to convey toe-tapping fun. But there is a higher level of PRaT where the rhythmic flow of the music can turn on a dime. The unusual time signature and relentless shift in rhythm on this album illustrates this higher level PRaT very well. Musicophile and BacHolz 2 Link to comment

One and a half
This album is a welcome change to American standards songbook. Excellently produced by Don Was, just the right amount of orchestration, and minimal like on Night and Day. There's sufficient dynamics in her voice to sing anything, just a treasure to listen to, highly recommended. Track listing No. Title Writer(s) Producer(s) Length 1. "All The Way" Sammy Cahn Don Was 3:56 2. "I'll Be Seeing You/ Some Other Time" (Medley) Irving Kahal • Betty Comden • Adolph Green Was 5:39 3. "Night and Day" Cole Porter Was 5:09 4. You‘ve never been exposed to Naim‘s marketing then. And to be fair, they have certain house sound that focuses on this particular point, that it even made its way into their Wikipedia page. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naim_Audio_amplification My own Exposure gear has a similar sound. It’s more about precision than about eg a totally balanced EQ. Check out my blog at musicophilesblog.com - From Keith Jarrett to Johannes Brahms Link to comment

Pace, rhythm and timing comes from the music. I thought PRaT is the term that describes how well a system passes these musical attributes. Rhythm in music is not always one dimensional boom-boom-boom though. There are strong and weak beats within a bar. And in compound and complex time, it's possible to play games with the subdivision. This type of manipulation is to a large degree what the Time Out album is about. To convey the rhythm shifts in the album clearly, shape of all the notes need to be exact and that in turn requires the system to have very high degree of dynamic integrity/linearity, in realtime. A while back my system was trashed pretty thoroughly here on CA. Obviously you're not living with sucky systems like the rest of us. So trivialities like PRaT probably aren't something you would bother with Melvin 1 Link to comment

Brought it out again as kind of a celebration of the completion of Friedhelm Flamme's enormous Organ Works of the North German Baroque series on CPO label Link to comment
rando
Interesting but not engaging. Doubtful these two will see another play anytime soon. Unlike the newest Crebassa album on Erato which has been getting heavy play. Link to comment
