Russell_L
An old favorite, newly remastered at 96/24. (Sounds great!) Worth it for Helen Donath's gorgeously sung "He shall feed his flock" alone. rando
As expected this was very enjoyable, and generous of them to send it all the way from the UK. There is much good music to be discovered outside the recapitulations of the majors. Save five, every piece of music and composer was new to me. Very glad I chose to open it and discover it was most certainly not another Rapha mailing. Link to comment

Superstar? Maybe. But Trifonov? He needs to develop some kind of a backbone in addition to nice sonorities before he could be crowned with such titles. Imho, of course. Link to comment

Regarding Mutter, at least in Europe, she was a guaranteed seller for DG for many years (not that number of records sold necessarily equals quality obviously). For Trifonov, agree he is no Gilels yet, but I've been consistently impressed with his recordings so far (even though I don't care for Gergiev´s reorchestration of the Chopin concertos). Among the pianists under 30, he (together with Igor Levit) is among the most promising artists out there, and I've seen the term superstar used by others (e.g. here: http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/classical/reviews/daniil-trifonov-barbican-review-pianist-russian-a7541256.html). I am not much interested in perfumed feminine pleasantries. I guess you mean Pletnev's orchestrations. Mutter - I was ignoring her for a very long time, because I was categorizing her as a Karajan play-toy. With time I re-discovered Karajan again, and there was a day I started listening some Mutter recordings. Glad I did, because I was impressed very much with her original manner which makes her ways maybe not the shortest and clearest one, but definitely worth exploring. semente and Musicophile 1 1 Link to comment
Popular Post AnotherSpin
The new recording of Tchaikovsky 6th from Teodor Currentzis and MusicAeterna is well capable to give a sheer aural bliss. Stunning emotionality with a complete lack of banal sentimentality or schmaltz so annoying in many previous interpretation of this piece. The orchestra is well disciplined and sounds very good in general for Russian orchestra. For those who prefer to stay away from wooly sounds of wind instruments in Russian orchestras there is a good news, Currentzis drew Europeans to several key positions in the wind section. A great recording. Musicophile and rando 1 1 Link to comment

Popular Post rando
The Murakami book of his conversations with Ozawa has been on my night stand for the last week or so. His popularity in the US and prominent orchestral appointments were a bit before my time. As such his path through to being internationally renowned because of his time here was a surprise which neatly tied in with my recent "Lenny" explorations. I have, and have posted, a few of his albums so picking up this recording with Mullova was an easy decision. semente and EuroChamp 1 1 Link to comment
