Musicophile
For once an Isabelle Faust album I don't love, what a rare occasion: See my review here: https://musicophilesblog.com/2017/08/26/isabelle-faust-and-pablo-heras-casado-play-mendelssohn-too-hip/ Guidof 1 Check out my blog at musicophilesblog.com - From Keith Jarrett to Johannes Brahms Link to comment

Popular Post Guidof
Bach: Organ Works, vol 2. Beautifully played by Masaaki Suzuki on the Marc Garnier organ of the Shoin Chapel in Kobe, Japan. I'm not quite happy with the sound, though. I suspect this has more to do with this particular organ and venue than with the proficiency of the recording, which seems to strike a good balance between reasonable mikes distance from the instrument and no smearing of details. I was more favorably impressed with the sound of the Martinikerk organ in Groningen, The Netherlands, that Suzuki used for vol 1 of the series. Both are 24/96 Qobuz downloads. master
A trip down memory lane... this is some of the best rock ever... and that's saying a lot when you consider the all time greats of rock. But all said and done GNR made some great music, nevermind all the non-political correctness by today's standards. Don't Cry still gets me humming, November Rain is a guilty pleasure, especially the video, Garden Of Eden is still such a blast, and I can still rock to Axl and Slash... wow so many memories. This double album by GNR comes highly recommended, especially given that it's been over 25 years and the music is still powerful and enjoyable. Well, you certainly can't meditate listening to Glenn Gould's version with his irritating humming along. sphinxsix
There would be much less great piano music without humming pianists. However it's interesting that players of other instruments don't hum that often. Have you guys heard a humming vibraphonist or a guitar player.? One thing is certain - one humming instrumentalist in a band rules out other potential hummers in the same band.. Imagine a whole humming orchestra or a big band.. Link to comment

Popular Post sphinxsix
24--96 'Cirklar' has reached 29th position on the German pop(!) charts. I recall seeing online the latest Tomasz Stanko listed on the 2nd or 3rd position on the Polish Media Markt sales charts (I believe right next to Metallica album). Such things can't happen everywhere in the world.. @Musicophile I think this was you who asked on your blog if their music was jazz and your answer was something like 'I don't really care'. Me either. The improvisational margin in TT music is definitely quite narrow (it's mostly prearranged) but the music is composed, arranged and played with lots of skill, inteligence and I'd use the word 'classical' elegance. A very nice album. BacHolz and Musicophile 2 Link to comment

A little too cute for me, and I couldn't stand his adornments. The '81 Gould will always be the perfect version to me. Andrei Gavrilov's version is another favorite.
