Thanks for the Ray Brown tip - just bought the download on Presto Music for a price-I-couldn't-refuse.

Thanks for sharing that link. I've bought classical albums from Presto but for some reason failed to realize they also sold jazz.

A recent addition to the collection. Always had a soft spot for great soul music (or whatever you may call it).

Such a great album!

Thanks for reminding me of it.

Sierra Hull - 25 Trips

Keep in mind Hull is a two-time IBMA winner on mandolin, the first woman to ever win the award after multiple years of nominations. You hear plenty of her great work here but don’t kiss this off as a bluegrass album because it is far more ranging. Hull says, “One of the things I most enjoyed … was getting to show the wide variety of music I love…..What really matters to me is trusting myself to be who I am, and just putting my voice and my heart out there in the most sincere way I can.”   Wow! She’s done all of that and more. This is highly recommended listening well beyond just the bluegrass aficionados.

Bach: Cello Suites Nos. 4, 5 & 6. Brilliantly played by Tanja Tetzlaff. Oh, and sandwiched between the Suites she plays two (mercifully short) pieces for cello and tape by Thorsten Encke.

Excellent sound from a 24/96 Qobuz download.

Just sampled on Amazon Music. Those pieces by Encke are truly awful.

The title of this review sums it up:

A pop/folk musician gone wild. That doesn't happen very often.

Don't let this sweet cover photo fool you.. (16-44)

I'm intrigued by the album you are referring to.

Can you sure the name and artist? Your image didn't make it through.

Clark Terry / Frank Wess

Big Band Basie

Reference Recordings

DR-16

16/44.1

Qobuz

I prefer high dynamic range, this excellent 1989 album shows what SQ was possible back then - even if it is just Redbook.

The other two albums he did with Reference Recordings are also great.

Both are almost identical albums with the same tracks in different order. But they are good, yes.

These two and the one I mentioned earlier are all HDCD. Probably this is partially responsible for the excellent sound experience 👌

It looks the Chicago Sessions is a compilation containing tracks mainly from Clark Terry Express with a few from Big Band Basie such as Moten Swing and Jessica's Day.
