You know the story behind the title?

No. Will read up.

Thought another of those bands that did not gain much traction after their first album - BBM, Mudcrutch, Sex Pistols.

Got it for Ry, whose stuff I've been collecting.

Could be a little difficult to find, so I'll relate the story below. The studio outtake that spawned the name is actually on this album (which I have but haven't listened to in a while), I forget exactly where.

The group/album is named for a Sonny Boy Williamson tune with the same title. During a September 1957 session, Sonny Boy got into a brief argument with Leonard Chess about what to name a song. Sonny Boy ended the discussion by hollering "Little Village, mother****er, Little Village! You name it Your Mammy if you wanna!"

I recently started listening to one complete album from start to finish every evening. It's really great to sit down, no Internet, no phone, no iPhone, no i-anything and close my evening out with uninterrupted music. There's nothing like closing out each day on a great note, no pun intended.

Done this way... no distractions, not even bright lights.

Trust me you got to try this... it's not the same as having Spotify streaming in the background while you are multitasking.

I've been meaning to do some serious listening to Prince, kind of a discography of all his albums.

Today was Purple Rain, the song and the album that started me on Prince, songs like When Doves Cry, Purple Rain, Let's Go Crazy, and more.

Prince (and the album) go effortlessly across multiple genres like pop, jazz, funk, rock, etc. the guy was seriously talented.

This album belongs in every collection... seriously!

Soundgarden - Superunknown (2014 Remaster) - Black Hole Sun in DSD64 from superhirez, purchased today, one of the many ways to listen to the voice of Chris Cornell.

Heard this track many times, and yet today I heard new sounds.

We also bought Sting - Sacred Love and Marvin Gaye - The Marvin Gaye Collection in DSD64.

Never heard so many things in 'Distant Lover'.

It's really a shame we don't have many more albums in DSD64 and above, the Canadian Superhirez for DSD is still very anaemic, I was rather disappointed that we couldn't purchase two albums by David Bowie, one Earth Wind & Fire and a Luther Vandross that are only available in the US store.

A further disappointment was the download app (by JRiver): starts downloading straight away without me specifying where to put the downloads, can't stop the dowloads, and if the download freezes and you've moved the tracks, on relaunching, it will start downloading the whole album again. Not very clever.

Still, we're happy about what we could purchase. We avoided all the jazz stuff, it gets boring after a while.

Prince - Batman.

Another Prince album... thoroughly enjoyable and gels well with the movie.

OT: Loved the movie too... especially Jack Nicholson.

Just released. 24/96 download from HDtracks. Real good sound quality, great performance.

This is one of the relatively few (<10) Dead concerts I experienced in a previous life. My old ticket stub says it cost me $8.25 (Dead $ Company tickets for Folsom Field in Boulder this summer cost me $125)

Mac Mini (mid 2010) Yosemite, Audirvana Plus v 3.0 > Mapleshade ClearLink Plus USB > UpTone REGEN (Amber) w/LPS-1 > Peachtree nova150 > PSB Imagine T / REL R328 and so on...

Ok, guys something catchy today. Both fine albums one older and one more recent with Roy Haynes. First one more bluesy jazz, the latter one more contemporary jazz (still with so called "music plot") recorder live and in the studio. Try it.

Excellent album, 'Harvest Moon' and 'Natural Beauty' are favourites.

I agree, and really good recording as well. Other than some of his "experiments" Neil generally cares a great deal about recorded quality.

Have you checked out Cassandra Wilson's cover of Harvest Moon? It'll give the bass in your system a real workout, and it's a very nice cover as well.

DALMATICA: CHANTS OF THE ADRIATIC

Ensemble Dialogos, Katarina Livljanić, Kantaduri, Joško Ćaleta

Beautiful! Listening on Tidal. Will purchase 24/88.2 from Qobuz.

"Behind the hundreds of islands and history of wars, the Croatian coastal region of Dalmatia hides endless musical treasures. In this powerful musical fresco, four female singers of Dialogos and six traditional cantors from Croatia explore the richness of Dalmatian musical traditions, at the boundaries of Roman Catholic and Byzantine worlds since the Middle Ages. Between rare gems from Latin manuscripts, and polyphonic Glagolitic chants from the coastal, insular and hinterland regions of Croatia, this recording reveals a tradition of the liturgical year going from Advent to Holy Week and invites us to discover this small country on the Adriatic Sea, with its rich and ancient musical roots born between the Western and Eastern Roman Empires."

Awesome! Which reminds me: I've had Tallis Scholar's Taverner Missa Gloris tibi Trinitas on the listen queue for a while. Need to get to it soon. And I've been meaning to get the Missa Corona spinea too. It's supposed to be even more difficult. Your impressions?

In any case, Album of the Evening:
