zyberguran
Back to topic: After the discussion above: starting the evening with (obviously): Wow, this album is really outstanding. Followed by (also very good, but not as exceptional as the one above to my ears - although Evans purists will kill me for this comment): Great records both! I am very happy that I read your post and that I found them both at Tidal/WiMP! Link to comment

zyberguran
Thanks for this suggestion! As a young man I used to listen to the Hungarian rhapsodies in orchestre versions. Now I tested a few piano versions in Tidal before buying this album/s in 16/44 a a flac download from Hyperion. Leslie Howard version is warmly recommended! Both SQ and music is great! zyberguran
Speaking of quartets - my album of tonight is Sonny Rollins The Bridge. Enjoying the whole group's interplay and also individual performance from SR and Jim Hall etc. No piano, though? Available (outside my habitat) in various hires forms but my CD sounds just just fine for the moment... https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/1d/The_Bridge_Sonny_Rollins.jpg Link to comment

zyberguran
Thanks for your recommendation! However, Vagn Holmboe is a Danish composer. And the orchestra is Swedish - nothing Dutch there...? Link to comment
zyberguran
I only have a half dozen versions. My two current favorite Goldbergs are by Andras Schiff (ECM) and Murai Perahia (Sony). The 2015 Igor Levitt is also very good. Then there is Staier and Hantai on the harpsichord. Does anyone here know where I can find a Goldberg by Alfred Brendel ? In an interview in March 2008, it is said that the only major piano piece Brendel regrets never having performed is Bach's "Goldberg" Variations. zyberguran
I just ordered it from http://www.camjazz.com/home/8052405142580-live-in-germany-cd.html The Italians charge me quit a lot to send the CD to Sweden so I hope it is worth the effort to follow the recommendation - it is also available as a wav download. Wait, what? There’s a 6th?! Turns out Op. 61a is a piano transcription of the violin concerto, and it’s lovely! 5 hours ago, austinpop said: Speaking of Beethovens violin concerto - here's a wild and innovative version that I listened to the other night! austinpop and jiminlogansquare 1 1 Link to comment

I was aware of his somewhat weird late set with the Concentus Musicus, but not this one. Doesn't seem to be on Qobuz unfortunately. I could only find a CD on Amazon, but since my iMac died I don't have anything anymore to rip those stupid things. Do you have a streaming or download source for these?
