I very much would like to rip 200-250 of my SACD's - the last of my discs to move to my computer hard drive and sell/donate my boxes of CD/SACD's to free-up space and get some extra grocery money. All my discs/jewel cases are in unusually excellent condition with any jewel case (regular and super jewel case) not looking close to new having been replaced along with those which had factory stickers applies to the jewel case. Locating a reliable and affordable PS3 with right firmware plus the ripping protocol required is overwhelming to me. I certainly have time on my hands but not at all tech savvy means I'll unlikely undertake the frustration. I had someone contact me online offering to rip my SACD's for $10 a disc which I felt was high, plus the possibility the individual is not above board and legal issues that could be thrust upon me made me ignore this individual. If a reputable CA member has ideas I'm all ears. My one regret about this SACD rip business is I did not pursue it years ago when the correct PS3's were more affordable and plentiful on ebay and I was younger and sharper (v:

buffalo boy, many of us here on CA have found them on Ebay. And then hopefully my guide makes it easy to rip them...it's not difficult at all if you follow the few directions. Don't give up on this just cuz you can't find one at Walmart. By the way, you mention the guy asking $10 being a flag....selling your cd/SACD's that you admit are ripped to your hard drive is just as big a flag. It is illegal to sell cd's that you've ripped. you'd be obligated to delete the files too.

You are so right of course. As to acquiring PS3 - I'm to cautious to buy old hardware off ebay as have been burnt to many times in past. There is one fellow advertising guaranteed refurb PS3 with last correct FW but the chap is asking over $400! If a good CA member has an extra that's correct I'm here although likely it's get to the back of the line Buffalo Boy (v:

SACD Archiving

I would be willing to assist a few members to back up their SACD collection at NO cost. I have a lot of time, and am using the latest SACD ripping software which converts it to an ISO file. Please see previous post with screen-shot.

Ted is there any copyright issues with this since the owner has the original?

Playstation 3 - How to locate one on eBay

I noticed that if I did a search for Playstation 3 20GB it produced good results. The older units get expensive if the seller posts the firmware version such as 3.55. Other auction searches I used were:

Playstation 3 3.41

Playstation 3 60GB

Playstation 3 CECHA (or the other 3 models)

Let me know if this helps? Again, seems the Playstation 3 20GB was one of the best searches, yet you need to confirm the console firmware is at 3.55 or below. Most of the time the seller does not post this information which makes the unit less expensive.

Jeff, SACD ripping is less a copyright issue and more a hacking of protected/DRM issue...still illegal in the US regardless.

I tried to buy but to late as usual. Very frustrating as for sale unit had ripping software already installed and unit was offered by Audio Circle member with good feedback. Love to rip all my SACD's and sell my SACD player and pay down some pressing medical bills. Nice to read I don't need to buy a DSD dac but can use free Korg software to convert PS3 rips to good enough for me high resolution files (unless I misinterpreted information). 24/96 or thereabouts is good enough for my needs.

You are probably referring to The Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

I am not aware of any individual being charged with violation of this act for copying SACD's. So far, the DMCA has primarily been used as a means to issue take down notices.

Ok, I guess I need to post this again. As I've posted here before, and on other threads (and was worried it would be too much but I guess not) my Guide is readily available in the public DSD database that Jesus and I are compiling (with the help of Cookie Marenco and any input from our great CA readers). it is at the bottom of the database listings:

But in the meantime I will continue to help those who can't find it. Audio, welcome to CA. PM on its way.

Quick f/u to my USB flash drive experience with PS3 SACD ripping. Lexar Triton 16GB gives 2.6 MB/s rip speeds, has a blinking light to indicate operation (useful for those SACDs where the ripping software freezes the screen), and has really fast USB 3 speeds when transferring the files to my computer. Highly recommended.

I have had several folks who have tried extraction (esp Windows) get error messages, which is mostly due to the fact that they haven't set up the working folder properly.

Here is a simple extraction primer (for windows):

1) First make a new folder close to a root drive (so the naming path doesn’t get too long..sometimes the classical ones are ridiculous). Call it, say, ISO2DSD.

2) Then make a subfolder in it called Programs (capital “P”).

3) Put the SACD-extract.exe (first link below, unzip) executable in the Programs subfolder.

sacd_extract_0.3.7_WIN32.zip - sacd-ripper - SACD Extract 0.3.7 (WIN32) - SACD ripping software using a PS3 - Google Project Hosting

4) Put the bat file (link below, unzip) in the main folder.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3487125/Extract%20DST%20Stereo%20DSF%20Files.zip

5) So then put any number of ISOs (rename the ISOs if their name is too long; something that will uniquely identify them but not too long) you want to extract in the main folder (the one with the bat, the one we called ISO2DSD).

6) Click on the bat file and then each ISO will extract to DSF tracks, putting one album full of tracks in a folder each (20 ISOs, 20 new folders created). When you do this again remove the already-extracted ISOs or they will get worked on again! Each ISO can take 10 minutes or more, so once you have this down well do a bunch overnight.

The folder should look like this (this includes my favorite two bats, the DSF stereo one from above and the multichannel one; both also check for the presence of DST compression in the ISO just in case):

Ok, as follow up.....I added 3 ISOs to my ISO2DSD folder, hit the Extract DST Stereo DSF bat, and waited about 6 minutes for the setup to extract the 3 albums (since none of these albums have any multichannel content the extraction of stereo DSF goes very quickly; there is no need to know if the ISOs have multichannel content to do this stereo extraction, but checking the progress will be an indicator....22-25 MB/sec or more like 2MB). The results are as shown, with 3 folders created.

iso2dsd setup results.jpg

Next step would be to remove the ISOs to somewhere else (archive them offline, for example; but they need to be moved or they will get extracted again where they sit now) move the DSF folders to your main music folder location, and then do several more. I did only three to show the results easier.

Yes. I'm using that one as well. Rips faster than my San Disk Cruzer Glide.

This just puzzles me, how is it possible? Windows has maximum length of 32768 characters... What can get longer than that!?

We've explained this pages back. It's not a Windows restriction, it is a sacd_extract restriction.

Hi Guys,

I was a little worried about the amount of work one need to do with the installation of SACD Ripper. But teb_b's primer is really helpful and made everything so simple. I managed to get it up and running in less than an hour.

I bought my PS3 from ps3specialist in Ebay He seems to be an expert in reconditioning PS3 with his "re-ball" techniqiue. The PS3 I got looks spanking new...the only giveaway sign was some dirt you can see in the interior of the PS3 as viewed through the cooling vents.

2.6MB per second seems to be the speed of the SACD drive. I ripped my first SACD with the flash drive but after doing it via the network though the SACD ripper DAEMON, that seems to be a better option.

A big thank you to ted_b.

So I assume the speed was the same via ripping to network as with the flash drive?
